I have not had a cellphone or cable tv or satellite service since November 2014. I am still ok, not missing anything but stress and bulls~~~, I know some of you have no choice, work etc…but for the rest of you, I know you can do it, I have done it and if anything I am better off for it…I still can catch news, and recently purchased a pretty expensive hd antennae…had to get the best one because I live more than 30 miles from the nearest broadcast stations…but I now have 4 local channels, which I really still do not use, but I have them if I really need local news or weather or a sports broadcast I can now catch live, but the few times I have turned it on I remember now why I left to begin with, commercials suck…anyways, join me in letting corporate America know we do not need you…and you cannot track me nearly as easily…join me in sticking it to the mainstream society!

I usually just watch tv for the news myself. Instead of watching tv shows, I use netflix on my ps3, watch videos on youtube and I am even in the middle of watching all the video archive of this site(I already watched about 100 videos at this point). Jeremiah, I think that you are doing fine with the internet that you have and the 4 local channels that you are getting. A lot of people are moving into streaming their shows now instead of actually watching shows with cable. If you wish to stream your shows, go subscribe to netflix like I am doing, or you can also subscribe to Hulu plus. Maybe the shows right now suck, but it doesn’t mean that you cannot watch the shows of many years ago when the feminist agenda was not so bad. Good luck.

I’m also off the cable and satellite for several years. I still have fiber optic just for web and I do have a landline but I can see cutting out that phone in future as well. I never use it. I do carry a cell phone when I hike-camp alone and also in the vehicle in case of needing a tow truck during worst of winter. I can always rig up a basic over air tv antenna if I ever need broadcast tv but I don’t have one ready now and can’t imagine needing one again.
If you walked into my place you’d think I was still watching tv because I have a fairly decent set hanging on the wall in one room. This is strictly for watching dvd and blu-ray discs as I really would miss some of them; especially some old movies, concerts, sci-fi and other shows that have been collected over the years.

go subscribe to netflix like I am doing,

So ahead of you brother…I have my netflix and my amazon prime accounts…LOVE THEM…I watch TONS of s~~~…I don’t know what I would do without them, lol, I have s~~~ty, terrible 1.5 Mbps DSL, and of course I HATE IT…If I had another choice, even a donkey slowly carting my internet to me, I WOULD TAKE IT IN A HEART BEAT…but I digress, unable too, as they have a monopoly here in the black hills of wyoming…My prime account I needed because I cannot get into town all that often, so I have a ton of s~~~ shipped up here, but I have started watching some s~~~ on there also, like Bosch..pretty good detective show…anyways, yeah I love streaming, just wish I had a DECENT ISP…ugh

I have a tv because I can’t get an “internet only” subscription here. Hardly use the thing, only for watching dvd’s/blurays and the weekly football recaps on Sunday evening (Dutch Eredivisie).

I have a smartphone, which I have for calling my parents and using whatsapp to stay in touch with my friends. No classic telephone here. because it’s much easier to use a handheld device. Not that I often take it with me, only when I go to therapy, visit a specialist and when I feel like taking a drive.

I mainly use my Android phone to keep in touch with everyone. I just figured it’s easier than getting a landline phone.

I also still watch cable, but only to drown out all the noise at my apartment because I’m still living with my parents.

I use only the internet for everything. I download all movies and shows that interest me and usually watch them while eating to save time. I make phone calls through the internet too and I use a cellphone app that allows calls and texting for free through wifi (I don’t have a cellphone plan). As for the news, I just stick with news websites and Youtube.

My internet is slow, about 2.5 MBps but that’s enough to do all of the above. I live in poverty so I have to cut back as much as possible to live comfortably.

I’ll definitely look into that then. Personally, I can’t stand cell phones if only because they’re a bitch to type on. And I hate smaller screens.

I don’t have TV service. It went when the wife moved out. I never really cared for it: always some stupid Hollyweird Show or Leftist Propaganda masquerading as News.

I have Netflix where I watch movies and I have Amazon.

I get my news off the internet.

Lately I have heard that Hollyweird has gone overboard on portraying male characters as dumb and incompetent. I have mostly been unaware of this since it has been a very long time since I watched a Television Show.

If you are not into gaming online you could try satellite. That reaches everywhere but tunnels. The reason you wouldn’t want to try gaming online over satellite is the time lag between the satellite and earth both ways. it takes about 750 milliseconds to go from earth to satellite and back. but for everything else where that lag doesn’t matter satellite is fine. Just check to make sure that they don’t have a limit on how much you can download. A 30 minute video can take a big chunk out of an allotment of bandwidth. Since you get your entertainment over the internet you need unlimited amount. Check it over carefully and ask questions on here. Someone will have the answers. Good luck.

    1.5 MBPS DSL? S~~~ty?

I would die for even half of that speed.

Well when I went to school in computers, a lady computer professor claimed that she could only use dial up in the rural area that she lived, but this was over 10 years ago. She also claimed that she could not even use dial up to it’s fullest potential, because of the dial up/telephone wires being the way it was in a rural area. She could only use dial up in her area by the way which is why she couldn’t do much. maraudrz1 did suggest for you to use satellite if you are not much of a gamer, so I guess that his suggestion is your best bet maybe.

I pay for 4 mbps (bits not bytes) …. and when the day is good I’d be lucky to get 800 kbps. Put a cap of about 8 GB bandwidth after which speeds drop to a s~~~ty 60 kbps..and welcome to my place!!

I’ve been in the process of “purging” myself of as much uneeded fluff. I’ve only kept a few luxuries like my portable gaming system and an electronic drum kit. My only subscriptions include Spotify so I can find new music to drum to.

My gaming used to be pretty hardcore. Numbering in the dozens upon dozens of hours throughout the week. It has since changed thanks to shifting priorities to work and sleep. I’m hoping the interest dies off completely.

    Another similar testimony,
When the wife left, the television and cable left. That was over five years ago. I have 30bps for the Internet only, a library of over 1400 books and decades old male friends (yes, and a girlfriend of 31 months that does not live with me: ok, I am not perfect 🙂 )

I’ve never been on facebook. I’ve never paid for television. I only have a cell phone because a single cell phone is easier than maintaining multiple land lines to separate addresses. That was a pain in the ass.
