There is said to be a war on Christmas, where you have non-Christians, particularly secular people who aren’t religions, tactfully wishing people a “Happy Holiday” or “Happy Holiday season”. There is much at risk, we are told, unless every American is united behind a common culture, with a common set of values. In this, Christmas is said to have a war on it, unless everyone is wishing one another a Merry Christmas. Such is seen to be critical.

But, what about Festivus? Festivus is ignored by many. It is not even know by many. If ignoring Christmas is seen as a war, so is ignoring Festivus. Festivus is whatever anyone damn well wants to make it. It doesn’t have set rules. It doesn’t require any sort of do this or that, or even wishing anyone anything. It demands less of anyone, and yet, it is ignored. I demand there be a president who will stand up for Festivus! And with this, that would be Rand Paul:

Festivus is known to be made up, unlike other holidays, which people end up feeling compelled to defend to no end. And you can do whatever you want with it.

Anyhow, considering the official day of Festivus just past, I figured I would post about it here.

And here is the information on it:

As the resident grumpy Atheist here I know I am going to ruffle some feathers when I say this, but, they are ALL made up. I despise most holidays as they often originate from religion. What if there were a national holiday called “there are no gods day”…Christians and others would be offended by it, that I am sure of. Separation of Church and State? Nothing doing on that front apparently.

Love the Seinfeld Festivus stuff, big Kramer fan, he and George’s dad were the most into it if I recall. Did it begin there? I don’t even know, haven’t checked. I do remember the airing of grievances and the feats of strength… Funny s~~~.

One of the writers on Seinfeld had a father who was/is a sociology professor. The father made up a holiday for the family, with its own rituals, which floated throughout the year. The basis of that was what led to the Seinfeld version.

I ended up getting into Festivus, after I posted on a forum how Kwanzaa was a made up holiday, just like Festivus. I decided to research more, and I found I really liked Festivus and due to its made up nature, I could make it into whatever I wanted. The Feats of Strength map well to playing games, so I thought that was good also. I can do damn well whatever with it I like.

It is pretty much an ideal placeholder holiday to use, to fit in everything, or any time during the year. And it spares me of the whole damn culture war thing. Because, I refuse to play the whole SJW game, or engage with them, it doesn’t mean I will align with the tradcon side. And Festivus helps me avoid that. I see the whole “War on Christmas” thing to end up being just some fodder to get people engaged in things that aren’t of relevance to them.

I made myself a Festivus pole I stuck on my desk for the holiday season. I even renamed a Meetup session on a calendar of a Geek meetup where I am to, Festivus 2017, which happened to fall on December 23rd.

I personally like to throw a wrench into as much as possible, to stop and have pause taken.

F~~~ it. I just Holidays. I don’t care if they are real or not. Sometimes, it just for the kids. Sometimes, it’s just for you.

“I don’t want more presents” Said no kid ever 🙂 It’s the stupid grownups that ruin holidays for everyone else.

You are all alone. If you have been falsely accused of RAPE, DV, PLEASE let all men know about the people who did this. http://register-her.net/web/guest/home

Ha, funny s~~~ man, you did this at work? How did people react? If I were a co-worker of yours I would have joined in telling everyone I do not celebrate Christmas, just Festivus.

It sat on the desk. I was asked a few questions about it, and got a few Seinfeld quotes. My supervisor actually liked it. I tell them I really don’t do Christmas anyhow. Yes, I have ties to the Christian religion, can be seen as a student of Jesus, and take it seriously. I just feel it is more important for myself to try to go my own way, and have that work. What I see with Christmas is a bastardized mess that is used to produce “unity” no matter how much compromise is involved. I just see Festivus as more of a frontier.

Actually, I made a joking comment to a few people I know that it kinda looked like a bong, and I got a chuckle. It was on a $1 towel holder, with some aluminum foil glued to a paper towel roll. It works.

I was just reminded of the David S Pumpkins quote from the animated Halloween special, where he said that Halloween is about the candy.

As a devout Catholic I find it amusing many people assume that because atheists or whoever think I’d be REALLY upset at Christmas being called anything other than Christmas, that I’d give a s~~~ about that.

Call it whatever, didn’t stop me going to mass and having a good old Holy day to myself.

    Good day.
