One of our student workers sent me a TEXT MESSAGE telling me she wasn’t going to be in until an hour after her shift.

    Was she sick? No.

Did she have a job interview somewhere? No.

Did she have a life-threatening emergency? No.

She’s coming in late because she’s PROTESTING DOWNTOWN. For those that don’t know, there was a “HERO act” here in Houston, Texas that would (in the big scheme of things) let transgendered people use whatever restroom they wanted without facing condemnation…and if they did, the condemner would face LEGAL CHARGES. It had other supposed “benefits,” but that was the biggest thing about it. It wasn’t approved by voters on Tuesday.

Voters decided that they didn’t want it! But, uh oh, here come the emotional feminist voters who didn’t get their way! Time to protest! What a waste of time!! She’s allowed to come in later without facing ANYTHING against her because she’s protesting something this place most definitely supports.

    Can’t you get her fired?

Well, being the point of contact in the office who people have to tell when they’re running late, I HAD to tell the one in charge of time sheets (the business assistant). When I simply told her the exact quote that I was texted “I can’t come in on time today. In downtown Houston protesting”, the business assistant looked at me and said “no…she’s not protesting what I think she is…is she!?” I shrugged. I KNOW she’s a far leftist-liberal-feminist-gender studies major…so of COURSE she’s going to be Ms. Protest a Social Cause. How this came out of a veteran of the military (which is what she likes to bring up often), I’m not sure. Then again, yes I do. AWALT.

I like the “get her fired” approach. That written, I recommend you keep your job until you can find a better one.

I doubt she would be fired for it unfortunately. The boss can, however, ask for some kind of proof she was indeed protesting. That’s what I would do.

Not showing for work without a good excuse for it, not only shows that you lack respect for your employer and your colleagues, but that you can’t be trusted anymore.

What are the odds that she will AGAIN not show for work when there is another retarded feminist and leftist protest?

If this is not argument enough for Megachris’s boss to fire her ass out, then he is an idiot too.

If they let her slide on this they have to let you slide. Is there a men’s/father’s rights protest somewhere you could join and be late to work? Make sure you use the exact same wording on your text message when you call in.

Oh yea, the HERO protest. I know that; I’m from Houston and I have friends that were bitching and whining about it because it was rejected. Al lot of them can’t accept that the majority of Houston decided to say no to this bill.

Personally, here’s my thoughts. If you have b~~~~, go to the men’s restroom. If you have a vajay-jay, go to the women’s restroom. I refuse to have any snowflakes up in this bitch.

My original office manager is out for 3 months maternity leave. She’s been gone a week so far, and it’s admittedly much more busy here, but also a lot easier working here (she’s the one I’m worried about losing my job from). I only recently noticed she has an “LGBT support” ribbon hanging on her office desk…she would likely back up the student worker for the protest if she were here. That being said…

Is there a men’s/father’s rights protest somewhere you could join and be late to work? Make sure you use the exact same wording on your text message when you call in.

THIS is what I was wondering. What if I said I was out there protesting the biggest Planned Parenthood building in the country (which is right down the highway from me)? I know plenty of friends of mine that do that actively, and good for them…but I KNOW I couldn’t sacrifice my work hours to do the same. This student worker’s a very outspoken feminist/leftist/atheist (this is not a dig at the civil atheists that I know are on here, she just gets NASTY with people that say they’re a believer in God like myself) and still hasn’t been fired yet. That alone tells me she’s not going anywhere until she wants to. Her CAREER goal is to be in an office like mine, but in a position like the women here are in: advisers and counselors. THAT’s why she was picked to work in this office in the first place. Because she’s 1) a woman, 2) a veteran, and 3) a current student, of COURSE she’s the “perfect fit.”

I refuse to have any snowflakes up in this bitch.

Exactly my thoughts on it! It’s Mayor Porker…’scuse me, Parker…that pushed stuff like this in the first place. Thank goodness she won’t be around much longer. I’m only right next to Houston (still considered Houston where I am, in a sense) and I hear about all this.

I agree with you, but this is not a society thinking logically/rationally. The PC and PR police have screwed things up so bad on the workforce that I don’t firing happening. It’s a shame for sure.

Looks like I may have been partially wrong.

Funny enough, she comes in the office an hour and a half ago and has a sticker on her that reads “I STAND WITH PLANNED PARENTHOOD.”

So it was a pro-abortion “protest,” I suppose. Then again, it could have been MANY things including the HERO act, I dunno…nor do I care. I only care that she came in late and her excuse was “I’m protesting something.” In what real-world, full-time job would that be an acceptable excuse for her to skip out on something?

On a side note, she’s filling in for me at my desk as I do some catching up in another separate office, and she stuck the “I STAND WITH PLANNED PARENTHOOD” sticker on my computer monitor. She better take that off before I get there, or I’m burning it.

Does your company have a protocol for reporting of sick or late? Perhaps she can be disciplined not for the time missed but for her inability to follow the rules when notifying superiors when she is going to be late. Is there a window of time that she has to report that she is going to be late and did she meet that deadline?

I guess she is one of the few protesters with a job so they schedule that crap during work hours. typical

It’s best not to go ‘against the political flow’ in the office; in fact, I would use this to your advantage if you want to take a day off here or there..

Came back to my desk this morning. “I STAND WITH PLANNED PARENTHOOD” sticker still on the side of my monitor. I feel like I should take it to the toilet and flush it. I don’t even want it in the trash can. 😛

Seriously though, since our lead is on maternity leave (lucky her, THREE MONTHS OFF), we have to report to the only worker here that has seniority over me here. She probably just told her “I can’t come in until 2:00.” I feel like I was the only one she specified “going to protest” to ME. That’s VERY likely.

It took a lot not to text her back (it bothers me that she has my number in the first place) and tell her “I protest your protest!”

I guess it bothers me the most because *I* am supposed to be here right at opening hours (8:00 AM) and HAVE to be here until 6:00. If I come in an hour later like she did (or even 15 minutes later), I have to put those hours towards my VACATION hours I’ve been saving for next month. All she has to do is make up the hour within the day! Must be nice to have people be SO flexible for you so you can support Planned Parenthood and then put a happy little sticker showing your support ON MY FRAGGING COMPUTER MONITOR.

I think she did that on purpose, too. She somehow KNOWS I’m not a fan of that movement whatsoever. I think it’s because I don’t react enthusiastically when she brings things up like that evil company, or that I don’t get excited when she brings up ANY radical feminist viewpoints that she has.
