This past weekend a client took me as his guest to an elite social club where his is a member. You’ve got to very, very accomplished to even be considered for membership which is by invitation only. He and I had a good time. I was very impressed with the facilities.

    I did notice some things:

    1) Not a single land whale was spotted and this city is whale ground zero. Even the men, though not buff were not fat. Wealthy people tend to take better care of themselves.
    2) The ugliest woman I saw was maybe a 6.5. These post Wallers’ husbands can afford the procedures necessary to delay the inevitable for them if the men don’t out right trade them out for younger women. I guess divorce rape kind of keeps that behavior in check.
    3) The younger women were very hot and very often with older men who were obviously not their fathers. The ones that were not were with the sons of the members.

It was like being in a twilight zone.

You’d be surprised how many land whales are in Vegas. Many of the hot women are most likely tourists just here for 2/3 days. I see land whales every time I step outside.

The only time I ever see hot women really is on the strip. Other than that, most of the women are either average looking or fat.

More like wealthy people don’t have time to get fat. It takes a lot of work to create and maintain wealth. Nobody ever got wealthy by sitting on the couch watching television and shoving potato chips down their gullet.

Lots of wealthy people are fat. Also depends on what wealth is.

If you don’t have to work for a living, have a pool outside your home, and eat high quality nutritious food, you will probably be in good shape just living life regularly.

If you don’t have access to good food, are a wage slave, and don’t have easy access to exercise, then you will gain weight. Primarily the wage slave thing. Anybody that works a lot of hours is probably going to be fat.

I remember my company’s old CFO talking to someone about a work trip he took to Europe. Apparently he and a few buddies had some bet on whether or not they could get all of their workouts in for the month. He managed to get in all of his workouts. The guy he was telling the story to was kissing his ass about how impressive that was that despite all his travel he got in his workouts.

I wanted to walk in the room and say “Get your nose out of his ass! The guy is the boss of everyone he’s meeting with. They will meet with him any f~~~ing time he wants to. Impressive would be if the person working for him got his work out in.”

If you’re the boss, you set the rules. If you want to work out at 10 in the morning, you put it on your schedule and 95% of the time you will keep the schedule.

You have a good point Phoenix. In medieval times, the poor were skinny as rails. Some of the trust fund people I know can be quite beefy though. They’re a potential bad influence too. They like the inverse of those who hang out in the dreg dive bars.

@sidecar: This place mostly consists of business execs/owners, successful doctors and lawyers. They do work very hard or did before retiring. I run my own business and have no time or reason to engage in unhealthy activities. They will slow me down and hurt me both physically and financially.

@taxguy: You’re right. I can set my workout schedule, and I tell people when I’ll be able to see them. That’s the only perk of being owned 24/7. I make it a point to make people wait even if I’m free just to train them to not expect instant service. I am a timeshare operation and have to manage conflicting priorities yet still keep the clients.

My biggest peeve of being self-employed is the attitude of friends and family thinking I’m always free at will to do whatever I want. I was doing accounting while waiting in the vet’s office today.

    It does for the men.

Like the old saying goes- no one wants to be married to a doctor/CFO/CEO/CA, but divorced from one.

Most of these men never learn and hook-up with another younger piece of eye-candy that will cost them even more later after the first divorce. I am not hurling stones as I totally understand the behavior. A hot women is like heroin; I am still going through withdrawal.

In my rambunctious youth I used to date strippers – they were more honest – should have stuck with that.

Yeah, to the yard guy’s benefit. Much like your colleague. The blue pill runs strong at all rungs of the socio-economic ladder.

One of my neer-do-well acquaintances was banging a doctor’s wife he met at the tennis club. Poor Doctor is getting ready for his divorce rape very soon as they are getting married. He’s unemployed and an alcoholic too.

    Sounds oh so familiar…..

My dark sense of humor can laugh at it now ~ only because I avoided the raping.

    C~~~’s will be c~~~s.

I have a new appreciation for old Bones from Star Trek – “…she took the whole damn planet in the divorce…”- classic.

Maybe a name change is in order – EyeWideOpen to Saw-Bones? lol

Lots of wealthy people are fat.

The only fat ones I know inherited everything. I don’t know any lottery winners, but I suppose a lot of them are fat too.

If you’re the boss, you set the rules. If you want to work out at 10 in the morning, you put it on your schedule and 95% of the time you will keep the schedule.

If only that were true. When you’re “the boss” of the company and all its employees, you are also the company’s biggest slave. The employees can go home at night and on the weekend, but the boss is always on the clock. Even at home you are still at work. Even on vacation you are still at work. If the prospective clients want to call you on New Delhi time, then you damn well have to be awake for the call on New Delhi time (thank f~~~ for email). Delegating can help, but usually only means there are more people to call you and bother you. Because if an employee f~~~s up, he risks losing his job. If you f~~~ up, you risk losing everyone their job. Most people I know who ended up selling their companies did so not for the money but simply to get away from all that responsibility. And then like masochists they go and start another company.

I took up climbing mostly as a way to get the f~~~ away from anywhere a cell signal can reach me. The other reason was to be able to sleep at night. I hate when I have to skip the gym for work, because it means insomnia every single time.

This place mostly consists of business execs/owners, successful doctors and lawyers. They do work very hard or did before retiring.

I believe I know the place. I can guarantee most of them are members at the insistence of their wives. For myself, I think I’d prefer to join one of those old school clubs like the Alpine Club, only from before they started admitting women. I probably wouldn’t get in though, seeing as my presence might clash with the furniture.

It goes to show that networking is quite a powerful thing.
