Scientists have grown human egg cells to full maturity in the lab in a potential breakthrough for fertility treatment, they announced in a study published Friday.

Researchers in New York and Edinburgh developed a new method to grow eggs from very early-stage cells obtained from ovary tissue, a team reported in the journal Molecular Human Reproduction.

The eggs were grown to the point at which they could be fertilized.

This had previously been achieved with mouse egg cells, while human eggs had been successfully cultivated starting from a much later stage of development.

“The latest study is the first time a human egg has been developed in the lab from its earliest stage to full maturity,” said a statement from the University of Edinburgh.

Egg cells are supposed to be fully mature when a woman grows to puberty. There are supposed to be a set number of egg cells and as a woman ovulates a few of these egg cells are lost until menopause when few to no egg cells are present.

I guess egg cells derive from the stroma surrounding egg cells or, perhaps, any immature cell, stem cell, can be induced to become an egg cell.

If that were the case then a man could produce an egg cell under certain conditions from a primitive cell from some other organ like the inside of the cheek. Say a cheek swab.

Men could then use these egg cells to produce a near clone of himself. Genetically identical but phenotypically different. In other words he’d be like an identical twin who have subtle anomalies.

Half the children would be male and half female.

This is what I wish would come true in my life time.

Imagine the day men come home to android woman that cares about his day by showing him appreciation for his hard work. Makes him dinner or orders it for him and massages his worries away.

Suggests that he go hang out with his friends, while she orders Amazon over to pick up the suit he wore and has it dry cleaned. Maybe wash some of his clothes if it was not done already.
