I would like to major in Computer Engineering. Could I volunteer at a tech company while trying to finish college? I heard that sometimes volunteering will help you get your foot in the door at that particular company. I would like to stay there for a good 3 to 5 years, while saving up some money on the side to have enough capital to start a business of my own. What do my fellow MGTOW think?

    There are a few possibilities.

If there is a specific technology, company, or field you want to get into. Go to that company and apply for an internship/coop/work study.

If you want to do something that leads to you having your own business, find a problem that nobody seems to be addressing currently and work on coming up with a solution for that. A Raspberry Pi or Arduino is fairly inexpensive, and you can make a lot of solutions with just those components. If you document it well and spread the word online that might get you noticed in the area you are working on.

Another low cost option is to find a popular open source project and start working on reported bugs and submitting fixes for them. Think of the “heartbleed” or “shellshock” bugs that have been big news the last few years. Working on projects like SSL and Bash may not lead immediately to big things, but they will get you some credibility because EVERYTHING on the internet uses tools like those that act as the utilities of the Internet.

Thanks for the input Eek! I will try and do all of that and continue to read and learn more programming languages.

I’m going to some day, and maybe soon after I finish fixing my website pages run my own business on eBay. I order PC parts at a good price, build the PC and sell it back on eBay for a profit. It’s something to do part-time while I try to land a job at my local Best Buy, which is also a tech store. I would be working there now if I only heard that phone ring the day they called and made me an offer last June. If you know how to assemble a jigsaw puzzle, then you very likely will know how to assemble a PC; all the parts can only fit one way. I figure getting customer service experience at Best Buy would help me develop customer service on my future PC/eBay business and keep up to date with technology.

I like to some day go into DeVry University and go into computer engineering, and do better than Best Buy, and make my future business work out better.
