Hospitals may soon have to post their standard prices for patients online, under a proposed rule unveiled Tuesday by the Trump administration.

Also, the administration is seeking comments on how to stop so-called surprise billing — when patients are charged after unknowingly being seen by out-of-network providers — and how to give patients better information about the out-of-pocket costs they will face.

And officials are ramping up pressure on hospitals to give patients better access to their medical records electronically or face a penalty.

——-A number of us on here work in the medical field. Even working the field this is overdue. A good number of places do charity work and pass the charges on to people with good insurance. That practice will come to an end.

Straight prices mean nothing. The people need to know how much the rich pay after insurance.

How much the rich pay has all the value of -0-

Most of the rich people have several levels of insurance. If not pre pay for better prices up front.

    Exactly.

Most of the rich people have several levels of insurance. If not pre pay for better prices up front.

And most of those levels are paid for by the working class.

Insurance is theft by deception, which increases prices and only benefits the rich.

When I have to consult a veterinarian about one of my animals, I know the cost of the basic exam and if anything more complicated than a basic blood test is needed, I’ll be given a written, itemized estimate first.

I know human medical care is more complicated in some ways than vet care, but it seems to me that it should be possible to do similar for human patients (emergencies excepted).

Part of the problem is lack of true competition, with many hospitals and even smaller practices being bought up by mega-conglomerate health companies. Part of it is questionable billing practices. I’ve had several different health insurance brokers tell me “off-the-record” that hospitals will often mis-code services on bills and see what gets paid. None of them would comment on whether they think this is accidental (due to the complexity of the system), or if it’s intentional — but they implied the latter.

I’m so p~~~ed off at the medical system. I recently had a scope put down my throat so the Dr. could try to find the problem. It was a very simple and fast experience, took less then a minute. It didn’t even help to find a diagnosis. When I got the bill, they counted it as an out patient surgery and charged me over $500. That’s not including the price of the Dr. visit, so it was $700 for a 10-15 minute appointment. WTF.

That was just one appointment. I don’t even want to tell you about some of my other experiences, and they still can’t find a diagnosis. I’ve been getting f~~~ed hard by the medical system, it’s a dry f~~~ too, no lube and not even the curtesy of a reach around. Motherf~~~ers !!!

Good thing I’m Mgtow and I can afford this s~~~, as I have no c~~~ leaching my money, so that’s a huge plus.

How is it that my mechanic with a HS degree can tell me how much a procedure will cost but a hospital filled with MDs and accountant don’t know how much a simple blood draw or lab test, etc. Costs?

Good it’s about f~~~ing time. It’s asinine that people can’t tell you what medical things are going to cost. Things should have a price, having everything wrapped in bulls~~~ bacon allows too much corruption and price gouging. The medical industry needs an overhaul and transparency.

Pharma and medical care in US is extortion where they literally hold your health hostage for ransom
    best business model ever
don’t expect them to give it up without a fight in a country where bribery is ruled to be equivalent to free speech

This will never work. There is always a get-out-of-jail clause somewhere. Hospitals and doctors are just fronts for big pharma and other assorted criminals getting you to take pills and tests that you do not need.

They know how much its going to cost…its all based on how much they can screw you for. If you have good insurance that vial of blood drawn is more profitable then if you are on medicaid or some guy paying cash because you can’t afford insurance. In a sense…we already have socialized medicine.
