So, i just fixed a door handle. It was an old big handle, the previous owner didn’t manage to fix, and today i figured out how to fix it, bought some screws, got my tools and did it. I was really proud of myself.

But that got me thinking. Was i feeling good because i succeeded, or it was my brain rewarding me with a subtle dose of dopamine, because i was fulfilling my role as a man, and being “husband material”?

I see a lot of guys here saying they spend a lot of money in cars, motorcycles and stuff like that, and is seems to me that this is the kind of thing a man do to get a woman (at least here in my country): get a car, buy good clothes and hit the gim.

So when you buy yourself a car, good clothes and hit the gim, are you really going your own way?

If you buy all the things FOR YOU and not to impress someone then it is your own way, because you want it and you have the money to buy it and you just have the money because you didn’t pay somebody’s bills.
I understand the point of the question, because we are all out to get respect and recognition. But you answered the question already with your example. You fixed the door handle, I guess you did not expect and receive standing ovations and I think you did not contact your local newspaper to make a line in the news about it. You saw what you had to do, you did it well and you felt good. That’s it,

The best thing is when you don’t need all the material stuff. You know deep inside what you really need, and when it starts to become luxury, the kind of luxury which is more a burden than a release.

Respect yourself, search your fullfilment in yourself, Coach yourself and do what have to be done.
    CHERRS!!!

Whenever we men SOLVE something, we’re rewarded with the pleasure of INDEPENDENCE, women have nothing to do with that emotion, in fact there incessant meddling destroys a mans desire to fix anything; pussywhipped mangina.

You’re a philosophical entity and you’re designed to make art. The oldest I believe is a garden. You would say that all things a man could make is a garden of one sort or another. You take natural things and then arrange them for a purpose, either to make a statement or to do something. You could say, “I was here,” “This happened,” “Let us never forget,” or even, “Isn’t this rock neat?”

You’re driven to explore ideas and thinking to understand the meanings of them. You’re imperative is not sexual, to reproduce and die, but to build civilization and beyond. This is why you’re drawn to the stars and explore the tiniest of objects. You will draw conclusions from them, some inaccurate. The endeavor is necessary and as natural as eating. You need this. Should you not, boredom results and you will long.

All these things are driving you for a reason. You’re driven beyond your natural instincts, and even to ponder them, their meanings. You want to discover the ultimate meanings of them all.

Perhaps it’s no your brain that awarded you dopamine, but you telling your brain to give you some dopamine.

You took something practical and examined it for meaning. In it you explored existentialism, which concerns with lived experiences and the meanings of them. As the ancient sage said, “A life unexamined is not worth living.” Perhaps you mere act of thinking about your experience is your real objective. Give yourself a cookie.

Philosophy is structured in three aspects: The Logic; The Arts; And The Life.

In the Logic, this is where we argue.

In the Arts, this is where we make artwork to illustrate our beliefs. This includes literature. Your discussion is a little bit of an artwork.

In Life is where we live out our philosophy. Your experience fits here and you’re looking to live out the MGTOW philosophy.

When you fixed the door knob, would it have been right if you felt nothing?

People feel no matter what they do.  One cannot go through this life feeling nothing.  One cannot go through this life feeling bad all the time either.  Neither of those things are possible.   “Pleasure” has its place.   It is not something, I believe, that should be sought.   It is nothing that we should submit to either.  However, when working their is no point in avoiding enjoyment.   If one is happy, or enjoys what they are doing, no harm done.  Being “miserable” is pointless too, because all it means is that you desire a pleasure you cannot obtain.  You are under the control of pleasure, that is what misery is.

While one should not avoid pleasure, one should not indulge in it either.  To indulge means to submit to it.   At the end of the day it is about power.  Not over the outside world, but over yourself.  Hedonism does not permit this, being a prude does not permit this.   Men are destroyed from either avoiding pleasure (which is rare but does happen) or from indulging in it (which is the most common).

We are physical and spiritual beings.  It is not an either or.  If dopamine helps us achieve “pleasure”, why fight nature?

In regards to everyone else’s advice, including my own, I would not rush to accept it without first putting it to the test.  Pleasure can be deceiving too.

So when you buy yourself a car, good clothes and hit the gim, are you really going your own way?

I need a car to get to work.  I need clothes for warmth and protection.  I need physical fitness so I can work to survive.

I do not need a Mercedes.  I do not need (insert whatever clothes are fashionable).  I don’t need a six pack or twenty inch arms.  These are pleasures I do not need, and require me to submit to a certain unnatural lifestyle in order to obtain them.

I need a car that will get me from point a to point b and will last.  I need sturdy and durable, yet clean clothes.  I need a strong heart and a strong back.  No need to deny myself pleasure from acquiring basic needs.  Work is natural.  Certain types of work are not.

It’s up to each of us to understand ourselves and our motivations and to parse out the things we do for our own pleasure and edification from the things we do to impress others or elevate our social status. There is no single rule that applies to everyone, and even some things which can start out with one motivator for a person can end up with a different one.

For example, I purchased two vehicles about two years ago. The first was a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and the second was a Mercedes-Benz roadster. At the time I wanted the jeep to pursue my hobbies (camping, kayaking, off-roading, etc) and the Roadster because it’s a sexy machine that’s purely fun to drive. So I feel pretty good that I did both of these things for myself, not to try to display status or get laid.

These days, however, I spend a lot more time in the Jeep and a lot less time in the Benz… to the point where I’m thinking to sell the roadster, if for no other reason than the opportunity costs it represents. If I wanted to get laid I might buy a classic car or a Harley (both of which are popular with the females of Las Vegas) but really I’d rather have the jeep and my teardrop trailer and the extra cash in my pocket from not making a second car payment.

If I were to keep the Benz at this point, it would only be because it looks good to other people… my own sense of enjoyment in it has waned as my values have shifted over the last two years, so it mostly sits in the garage and waits for the time to come when I make the move to sell it.

The bottom line here is that you know when you’re doing something you want and when you’re doing something because other people are impressed by it… and only you can judge yourself in this context. If you’re trying to tell someone else what their motivations are or you honestly can’t tell what your own are, then you need to go back to the drawing board and figure some things out for yourself.

    Spot on.

In a society where we are bombarded by advertising and suggestiveness it’s hard to know how genuine our desires are, but as you learn more about yourself you get a much better feel for things that are right for you.

I think when you are brutally honest with yourself you’ll understand where your desires originate from.

    Here’s a possible thought:

America has the highest per capita college educated population in the world.

America has the greatest wealth in the world.

Why has our quality of life continued to go down the crapper? This could only be attributed to design. As the illuminati formulated in its early stages, women should be targeted with false propaganda first because they’re prone to believing gossip and rumors. Once they’re indoctrinated with lies, the family unit will crumble and the society will fail.

    Welcome to the end times.

    In my opinion, there are 3 things that will lead humanity into the realms of almost-godhood;

The exultation of 1) the body and 2) the mind- The admiration, strengthening, and awareness of our physical and mental powers, our nature, and our potential to both do and discover great things. It is the body that allows us to manipulate the forces of nature and it is the mind that gives us the knowledge to do so.

    3) The exultation of labor- The admiration of our works and advancements, our creativity and determination. Labor is where body and mind come together to propel our species.

The current world often ignores the needs and growth of the body, mind, and of labor, and we often forget the importance of these things. I find myself doing this as well and it is a shame, because if humanity were devoted to these then we could go far.

    Response to Diygkas:

“Self worth” is critical and important to ALL men.    There is  “crossover” between that primal drive,   and dating/family tribal insticts.    But at it’s core,  is a man’s desire to achieve,   and feel successful and valuable TO HIMSELF.    Men also admire this in each other-   and respect other men’s achievements,   and appreciate their challenges and failures as well.

Modern “Liberalism” has attempted to distort the reality construct.   Conveying to society that men need to earn the approval of others.    When in fact,   the man needs to earn his own approval of himself.    A  “real man” does not need the permission or approval of others.   Men need to STOP being beguiled by what the mainstream media tricks them into thinking….     and start thinking for themselves again and forging their own path.

The reality is-   woman was created for the man,   and not the other way around.    They should be seeking YOUR approval !   And you should always be the boss.   Not in a  “mean” or tyrannical way,   but as one with good intentions who is competent to lead.    Great and visionary men have always forged the progress of mankind by challenging the status quo,  and daring to be themselves and follow their dreams.

If I was President,   I would sign an EO allowing all men to claim any women in the household as  “dependents”….     even if they didn’t work and their wives did.    lol

Well, so far this never really happened in my case, KM at least not quite. Instead it was only on one day, when I experienced (only once mind) a double post of mine in one thread which I would personally write off as clearly a minor glitch I mean better have a post appearing twice in a row than not at all. But I gather it probably only had something to do with maybe heavy forum traffic at the time, since here is what happened in that particular instance: I finished a post of mine upon which I hit “submit”  —> nothing happened for a considerable little while so I waited quite patiently for maybe one or two minutes  —> still nothing happened the post didn’t show up. After that I tried to hit “submit” once more and again nothing happened for some while. At that point I just thought “ok forget it then…” (it was only a short post anyway, soo …) . Alright so I tried to somehow refresh the current page either by hitting the “refresh” button on my browser (firefox 36.0) or by hitting the title of the thread again, at this point now I don’t quite remember which option I went for but anyway, so the page refreshed and it was then that I noticed I accidentally had posted my reply identically two times in a row (whooops). But again that was the only one instance when I noticed something like that occurring. Now I know that this is so off-topic in here, but it was the easiest way to respond directly to your last point Keymaster. I shall add another full on-topic reply to this thread soonish.  Cheers !

Hey you’re equally spot on from what Doc said and that again catapults you towards your very nickname (Miles ahead) there, man (hence another +1 ahead so to speak one +1 at a time and that’s precisely how we all in this forum started off as upon first sign up). I for one hardly ever had to think that deeply about what I really intrinsically as it were desire as opposed to what society or the media want me to desire because very early in my life I learned not to give a mickey about advertisements but here that is a beside the point thing.

Upon your last line from your quote I’d like to add that if your brutally honest with yourself, you’ll hence also further more understand, that at the end of the day it is not at all too difficult to (at least temporarily) be just happy for what you have or what you have accomplished in your life at pretty much any given time, just like a momentary photographic still snapshot of a smile on your face right in the here and now…   … no, it’s easy.

Life’s what you all make it, lads, nuff said.
