Helping wife get a white collar job?

I am seeing this trend among my friends and others, these guys mostly blue collar workers spend their money on getting their wives get a white collar job.

They pay for her classes,books and fees.The reason these guys tell is

1. Extra income
2. they believe it increases their social status vs the white collar friends and circle.
3. These guys cannot become a white collar due to lack of degree, they think they are compensating for that with his wife.

My question is i have seen this backfire after someyears, but this guys dont seem to agree, what makes these guys go this path of stupidity? instead these guys can spend the money on learning or updating themeselves

If your wife is working and earning more, you will not have to pay spousal support when you divorce, only chikd support. If you’re already married, it might be worth getting the wife employed in the long run. You can reap some benefit before the divorce too, in theory.
