I’m Dillon. 27 year-old OIF vet, IT student, bartender.

Have spent the past couple of months improving myself and getting on track with what I really want out of life. Got a much better job, worked down a ton of debt, and have been in therapy for long-avoided issues. This past week I finally cut off all ties with my ex. Being a browser of 4chan, I have ran into the term MGTOW before (usually with negative connotations), but just the other day I noticed someone talking about the support network and the community here. I cautiously decided to check out the site and was astonished that it seemed to built for the kind of man I want to be one day. I decided I needed to join and see what I could learn from ya’ll/possibly help others with.

Looking forward to talking with you gents, and getting involved!

Welcome, verytallvet. I must admit I’m envious because you have a focus. I request you share your enthusiasm so the ones without a focus, like me, can learn from your experience. In return we (specifically me because I’m the one asking for the help) will help you

The reason why people try to make MGTOW look bad is due to serveral factors.  For women MGTOW is a threat because they can’t take advantage of us.  For men it’s more about defending women to feed is ego.  That’s right he is willing to throw men under the bus for his own benefit.  Welcome to the forums.

We are free. Women fear this.

The funny thing is they have no reason to fear us. We’re here for being free for each individual.

    Thanks for the welcome!

I don’t know that focus is as hard to come across as some people make it. I’ve seen a lot of talk about “monk mode” and mastery being how some men have found their way. There is merit to these approaches, but they need the quintessential element of focus to get kick started.

For me it was simple. Several months ago, my pschrink took a break from our usual serious discussion and processing, and simply asked me where I want to be. It started as an image of a house by the beach… but built up in my head over time.

I want to wake up and run for miles on the beach as the sun rises, I thought. Somewhere kind of far from this town… My fantasy grew and grew. I want to go to work for a government contractor or PMC, be surrounded by other vets. I want to develop a volunteer organization for homeless/at risk veterans in my free time. I want to be able to call family or buddies of mine and have them come crash at my sick pad on the beach any time of year. I want a huge basement with a music studio in it. And I want to pick up beach babes!

Now I have a plan to get there. It’s going to take me years of planning and saving, a high level of discipline, and some amount of luck, but I will make it. When I’m having a rough time of it I just think of that beach house. It’s like a totem or a mantra for me.

What kind of job do you want? What material items do you desire? Where do you want to live? What sort of volunteer work inspires you? What do you love enough to put ten thousand hours into?

Mastery and monk mode will get you there, but you need to know what the answers to those questions are first. Have your goals and dreams be your focus, man. Love yourself. Make your future whatever will be best for you and your passion/work. Everything else will come after, providing your willing to work for it.

Welcome @verytallvet. It is common for MGTOW to be talked about negatively, but those comments come from people who cannot see that we are just refusing to play the game.

I like and respect your focus and discipline. For much of my life I’ve been “bouncing” from one thing to the next, but each interest received my full attention. Eventually I learned how to realize long term goals, and having that resolve is deeply satisfying – but it is still nice to allow myself the freedom to set sights on something totally new and unexpected from time to time.  Going your own way means you will always have all options open.  Welcome again and cheers!

Welcome! When it comes to monk mode, you are in very good company. Some of the samurai were famous for studying Zen in ancient days. These days, it’s the USMC:

Hi Dillon, It’s nice to see another chunk of coal thrown in the forge of MGTOW, we’re producing men of chromolysteel; flexible, strong, and absolutely durable! WELCOME!

Hello and welcome, Dillon. Support network is a great way to look at it. We laugh as much as we learn here.
