wasn’t as hard as you might think. i always carry a small emergency shelter & a stove even when i’m out for a day hike. trading for supplies was key, though. i picked up food here and there from cabins and other hikers, after a week or two i got hold of a map… i would see another person probably once a week, so i wasn’t anywhere terribly remote in the grand scheme of things. usually 3-4 days walk to the nearest town. food, clothing, shelter… thats all you really need. i just kept walking all summer.

edit: got hold of a new map. i knew where i was when i left!
