Does a pianist who, as a child, liked to tinkle on the piano really enjoy playing the same Chopin nocturne over and over again all his life?

    —Esther Vilar, The Manipulated Man

    Chopin’s First Nocturne

Unlike the Prelude I posted a while ago, this took many, many takes till I was (somewhat) happy. I would’ve liked to do it a few more times, but that Esther Vilar quote was a little bit too close to home, and since I’m moving I’m going to be without easy access to a piano, so I think, given how much time I had to work with, this is the best it’ll come out.

The dynamic range of my phone’s microphone really is kind of s~~~. The ppp parts sound the same as the ff parts.

Also, could someone explain to me, a computer engineer, why the f~~~ a four and a half minute mp4 is over half a gigabyte big?

This is timely, as I just finished the manipulated man at lunch today and read a joke about a 12″ Pianist.

No longer can we walk away, we must run. Remove the motive power.

I see what you did there.

Sounds great to me! Thanks for sharing, man i wish i could play the piano like that.

Why not? Unless you mean playing ONLY that piece over and over again which would get boring and tedious, but other then that it´s probably nice to play it now and then if you feel like it?

Your taste and choice in pieces of music to learn are impeccable. I love that one.

Pay attention to your compression rate.
Thats MegaBits per second and it’s adjustable on output.

So depending on the software you used when outputting it, it doesn’t have to be that high if there is not much camera motion and the lighting is good. 2MegaBits would almost certainly be a suitable max here, and If anything you could afford to keep it low (and upping the audio quality) because it’s mostly about what you HEAR.

A 30 second full motion trailer can be 8 Megabytes or more.
It takes a bit of tweaking but you can get this down to 150MB rather easily.

But don’t worry about it, because youtube will recompress it for delivery anyway . Our 90 second trailer was 500MB to preserve the quality as much as possible before youtube “washed” it again.

If you keep doing what you've always done... you're gonna keep getting what you always got.
