I’m a minimalist at heart. I don’t need much of anything at all. Pretty much everything I own (aside from my furniture I currently have) can all fit in 3 backpacks.

All I’d need is a place to shower occasionally and for sleep, I could just pull over on the side of the freeway.

For food, I can just bring a cooler with me, a crockpot, and a generator for extra power.

If I did end up doing this, I’d end up getting either a jeep or a truck.

But, has anyone here ever thought about doing this long term? Would it actually work long term?

I knew a guy who drove a truck so he didn’t even have a home besides his sleeper – because he must pay almost all his paycheck to his XW who has three of his kids and decided to f~~~ her manager instead.

Other guy went woking to San Antonio oil fields in a conversion van equipped with a bed and TV and a fridge. He said it was OK

He said lots of guys starting in oil fields had conversion vans – it’s pretty convenient.
A jeep or a truck – I wouldn’t even consider it unless I was homeless
Camper topper, trailer camper or a conversion van is the way to go. I wouldn’t do it long term though – f~~~ that. If it was an RV – then it’s a whole different level of comfort.

I thought about getting a camper also. I’m not that big of a guy, but I would love more room to sleep and stretch out.

I’ve been looking into conversion vans as well. A lot of them have pretty cool designs.

Yes. Either a van or small box truck designed to be a mobile house.

It depends on where you are, winter will kill you where I am, but down south get a box van, a bicycle, and a tent, park the van in a legal place, then trek into the woods on mountain bike where you set up camp in a secret and secluded place. Staying in the van is likely to get you some harassment, wash up by a stream, and get a hand pump water desalinator/filter, Make sure you’re not seen, pick the perfect batcave spot with a perfect entrance you can obscure with forest debris. I would live like that instead of the comforts of the city.

If you’ve got a vehicle that is reasonably off-road capable, there are primitive campsites (no water or electrical feeds or other services) where you can legally camp for weeks or months at a time, at least there are in Nevada.

Guaranteeing your own safety is key, as is keeping an eye on your resource consumption, having a solar power rig and managing your own garbage and waste, but setting yourself up with a “home” in the forest or desert can be a lovely experience.

You could park for weeks at a time at a truck stop. Internet, tv, hot shower. Slip the owner a small fee every week and don’t cause trouble.

The comforts of the city are more annoying than beneficial for me. The only thing I’d miss is the high speed internet connection.

Living that way would be an awesome life.

I don’t produce that much waste as it is so that wouldn’t be a problem at all.

I’ve been thinking about getting a couple solar panels also. They’d be a great addition for power, especially if I’m out camping longer than intended.

I never thought of that. That would be a great way to do things. And if I needed to go in the city for work, I could just leave my camper parked there.

Inadvisable. You will most likely have your backlights turned off (to save battery power), and motorists will have a hard time detecting your vehicle. It’s a set-up for a fatal accident.

If it’s in a small town, maybe. But don’t even try it if you’re living in the city or near the city. Besides, the cops will then have a reason to mess with you (and to justify their existence if you’re living in a peaceful area). You will get a warning at best, and a ticket at worse, which does not support your minimalism lifestyle.

I would suggest a remote area, but you will need a weapon of some sort to ward off shady people.

Thanks for the warning. I didn’t know police were that anal about people pulling over on the freeway.

    I’ll definitely avoid doing that.

In about decade I plan on pulling the plug and going off grid.

That would be a great idea as well. Living either off the grid or in a camper/RV full time has always been a fantasy of mine.

I love my solitude and if I were able, I’d cut myself off from society altogether.

Living low and cheap is definitely the best way to go.

If you want to travel, blend in with the surroundings and be able to park anywhere on road or off road this would be the perfect vehicle for you.

You can also build a custom van a cheaper option but you will have some problems with it as time goes by.

Hope that helps you can also go on YouTube and just type in van life to look at more stuff to learn.

    Home

Mr. Wells has a wealth of information here. I don’t think he even knows what MGTOW is, but I’m pretty sure he’s close to being one.

I failed to realize in my youth that I was the prize. I was going to work. I was going to earn. Little did I realize that due to feminism, that no longer meant I had to share. Road soon, Desert after.

That’s the type of vehicle that would be perfect for me. I live in the city and plan to at least until I retire. Those types of vans would help out a lot.

I’ve seen his website. He has some pretty great vehicles made out for camping.

I also agree that he’s pretty close to being a MGTOW.

Yeah, I’ve been rousted by the highway patrol for simply pulling over to the shoulder on an on ramp and taking a nap when I was too sleepy to drive.

Not in my current vehicle but I considered a cargo van. I don’t need much so I could probably make that very comfortable.

I’m going to try to pull an early-retirement thing in a few years and to do so I will need to live on a tight budget. I figure I could always go to a motel here and there to get a hot shower.

It’s been my dream to just say f~~~ it and hike across the US. Sleep in a tent and just take my sweet time.

    No destination. Just living.

I’ve thought about it, sure. Not sure if i could give up all the “creature comforts”, but someone recommended i get a membership at a 24×7 gym – solves the shower/bathroom access issue if you’re staying local.

Doing a 24hr Fitness subscription would be a good idea. Access to a gym in nearly any city… clean bathrooms, a swimming pool, a place to relax for a while… even to meet local people. It’s not a bad idea.

the biggest problem to solve when living in a vehicle – is temperature control. It’s either too cold or too hot. Second one – is internet. If you got those two figured out – the rest of them are easily solved with a national gym chain membership
