Yo, wanted to create this thread for a while now and it is about Handball. It is a quite well known sport in Europe but I hardly see it get any attention in the US. And since I am practicing handball as a goalkeeper, I want to share my experience with you guys:

The last line of defense, blocking shots that can go up to 100 Km/h from a distance of approximately 6 meters, the split second reactions, the (sometimes intense) pain you feel when the ball hits you, the amount of potential mind games, the physical and mental strain involved…

My teammates love to jokingly say that every handball goalkeeper has got a screw loose for doing what they’re doing. And that may be true, but the feeling of joy when you hit a wonder save and give your team the upper hand far outweigh the risks.

@ Mancloud: Thinking back on my early teens I can relate and know what you’re talking about, because all these few years back then I used to play handball in a team myself.

In those days only once was I assigned to be the goal keeper myself and yes completely equipped with the protective dig plate and yet boy was I scared s~~~less once I stood in the goal collecting those free shots one after another as body hits…

Needless to say, only a few years afterwards I eventually quit that sport for good.

I'd rather die a natual death with a clear MGTOW conscience somewhere off the grid than one within "modern" civilisation with a big stress mark on my forehead and a couple of dozen tubes plugged into my body. Back to the plantation..? Me..? Hey, literally: I won't ever fucking kid myself...YZERLMNTSIC

Call me a masochist but the thrill is really what keeps me hooked to this sport. And this “ultimate guardian” feeling when you pull a wonder save is better than sex lol

The only handball game I am familiar with is the ones I played in schools from primary to high-school where two or more people have their individual squares and tried to force your opponents out with a tennis ball.

Marriage: About as appealing as wood-chipper diving.

I used to play racket ball, One time I swore I blinded my brother when he looked back at me and got it in the eye, it gave me the willies I hit him so hard, from then on we wore protective glasses.

I like handball from what I can see, soccer (euro football) destroys the knees, my cousin was in the State Championship, his chi is the monkey stance, we spar and his monkey style is good because you can’t stop concentrating on all the flailing movements like a chimp, he can put a knee through the backside of your head in a split second. He’s a featherweight and I’ve seen him level heavyweights. He bites too!!!

The only protective gear commonly used in Handball is a sort of shell to protect our genitals, some goalies also wear kneepads but it’s used by players more than goalkeepers. Protection really is to a minimum, when you start playing as a goalkeeper, one of the common rules is: “You’re gonna get hit everywhere on your body and your job is to endure it”.

Well, that’s what I meant when I brought up the term “protective dig plate/pad”.
