I can’t honestly blame this solely on women, as I’ve seen plenty of men do it as well, but here goes…

Why, why, WHY do people feel the need to take up every available square inch of room as they walk down the hallway or street? They’ll walk three, four, or five abreast, moving at a snail’s pace (because they’re so busy talking with each other, or on their damn phones), making it impossible to either move past them or come from the opposite direction. Gods help you if they have a stroller. They’re completely self-absorbed, paying absolutely NO attention to what’s going around them. If they run into you, it goes without saying that it’s YOUR fault. I often have to push my father, who is in a wheelchair and incapable of operating it himself, and people STILL don’t move.

The answer is to stop and stand still when you see them approaching. Then they will look like a total ass if they try to push through you. They will have to go around you. Otherwise, they are going to attempt to make you look like a rude pig(woman) or they might try to shoulder-check you or start s~~~ with you(male), if you try to move through them.

Narcissism is the norm! There are some alarming stats on this mental syndrome in another thread.

The OP left out supermarket aisles. Parking their cart catty-corners and sticking their fat butt in the opening left is another trick these types play. Oh, a loud conversation on a cell phone is a major plus when disrupting all the lives around them.

I noticed woman walk in rows of 3 or 4 or more across. Like they are some Sex And the City martini-slurping gaggle of turkey necks . Happens ALL the time even when going for a hike on a trail. Like they are a bulldozer of chick in yoga pants.

I walk straight ahead and refuse to veer for them breaking up the group. It really p~~~es them off too. I will walk right through them like they don’t exist BECAUSE they are doing it.

When others don’t display basic courtesy, point it out to them, and then extend them TWICE as much.

This might sound like some minor issue, but living in a downtown area it is a HUGE pet peve of mine. I will see a group walking four abreast taking up the ENTIRE sidewalk 20 feet away from me awaiting the impending doom lol. And Im not talking about people in front of me walking in the same direction; but people I have to pass face to face. They wont even THINK about moving until we rub shoulders.

Im like you OP it is just instinctual for me to make room. How do these people not even CONSIDER it? What because you and your 3 friends take up the sidewalk Im supposed to get in the street to get around you? I had a couple instances I was so p~~~ed. A girl was literally about to collide with me so “Are we going to just RUN into each other?” I said as her and her friend took up the entire sidewalk walking right into me as though Im just supposed to get out of the way.

Another time a dude was walking into me with his gf by his side. I didnt budge as Im not going to walk in the street because they HAVE to walk side by side and cant even accomodate me as we pass one another. Resulted in a big shoulder check…HARD.

Dumb self absorbed mother f~~~ers. For the life of me I dont know how its just not instinctual for them to be considerate and make room. I lieterally have to train myself not to be so nice, and not walk in the street or turn sideways when walking through people like this. Its not un nice of me; its f~~~ing rude of them for not getting in a single file for the fraction of a second it takes to pass.

Don’t worry guys, every now and then a group of them are squashed by an overturning vehicle their completely unaware of! When I’m in a city I move quickly and dodge pedestrians, kinda like Herbs blocking a line when I’m skiing. Another thing I do is block collisions with non aggressive hand contact to absorb and deflect, using them as if they were ski poles. If I could drive through automotive traffic the way I walk through heavy pedestrian traffic, my car would be on two wheels most the time!

I remember in late elementary school a line of t~~~’s literally walked into me and knocked me over. I didn’t have any idea at the time why they did that but I later realized It was perpetrated by a vengeful t~~~ who apparently hated me because I didn’t take an interest in her. She wasn’t likable, bad attitude, jezebel spirit, spoiled, broken family and not particularly attractive.

Once I was riding my mountain bike on a road, these four punks crossed over and lined up abreast right in my path on purpose. I dropped gear and started peddling even it faster. I parted them like Moses did the Red Sea and scared the s~~~ out of them. They respected me though as they gave me a thumbs up when I drove past them on my way back home.

People are general f~~~ing rude pigs as a rule. I’ve been having a cluster of aisle hogging speeding scooter whale incidents of late.

I try to promote manners because I want to live in a society where folks are civil to each other, but some types definitely respond better to a stick than a carrot.

You’ve nailed it yourself, OP. They’re not self-absorbed narcissists because they hog the sidewalk – they hog the sidewalk because they’re self-absorbed narcissists. Can’t really expect any better from them, can only respond with some sort of negative reinforcement. In your case, I’d say, wheel-chair footplates to their ankles for sure. Make like it’s an accident if you need to. “I’m so sorry, I didn’t see the 5 of you there blocking the whole world!”

PS: I used to have this issue when I used to push kids in wheelchairs around, and my main gripe was old people – everyone else would get out of the way, old people would go ‘counter-entitlement’ and think kids, even ones in wheelchairs should move for them. Even had a couple of grogans cut in front of the kids in a ferry line once. I was going to go their ankles but thought I might break something. My advice is at your own risk 😉

You’re lucky and got off easy. I had to stave off a false accusation because I didn’t f~~~ a bitch once, True story. This woman tried to ruin my f~~~ing life because I would NOT f~~~ her – and sent her home in a cab at my expense when she was too drunk. One or two weeks later she called my place and a chick who was staying over answered the phone. She went absolutely crazy and threw a fit. Yeah you heard me – because I did NOT f~~~ her.

Try and wrap your head around that one. It’s OK I’ll wait.

They are an evil lot and what’s worse is that these mentalities of “he won’t f~~~ me, so I’ll destroy him” are becoming more and more common. It’s just like the story of Joseph and Pottifers slut wife.

In my case this particular girl went on to cause quite a bit of trouble in high school, just because I gently brushed off her advance. Started spreading malicious gossip about me being “gay”, trying to sabotage my affairs and inciting hatred against me. It was funny to learn of this group of girls turning against one of their long time friends and that it got bad enough that the school administration became involved.

Eventually I got the opportunity to talk to the outed one and that’s when I learned about what they did to her and confirmed my suspicion about the conspiracy against me and amongst the three named…the troublemaking c~~~ was one of them. Fortunately she moved far away shortly thereafter and wasn’t able to cause anymore problems.

It’s a real war, right outside ya front door…I tell ya…

Now me, obviously if it’s someone blind or in a wheelchair or children or something like that, I happily give them as much of the path as they want, because only a complete asshole wouldn’t, and I am not a complete asshole. But if it’s a group of able bodied women (or men, technically, though I never see men doing this) taking up the whole path, well they have no excuse, and it’s Game On.

I usually say ahead of time something like: “Pardon me, ladies!” and then plow right through them. If they’re on the wrong side of the path, they don’t have the right of way, so they damn well better get right out of my way. If they get p~~~ed off, what of it? I have no f~~~s to give. And if they are especially bitchy or pushy, well… I have a way of making my own entertainment from that.
