    Let thy die a noble death Lord, grant thy this small reward, by the hand of thy enemies sword, back to the dust where thee were formed

    Tired of this life, bored, time to pull the cord, please allow thee a noble death good Lord

    The path is narrow not broad, give thee a honorary death as thou take thou last breath Lord

    Beautiful prayer. What is the purpose of it at this time?

    I don't hate women. I just feel better when they're not around.

    Beautiful prayer. What is the purpose of it at this time?

    No tangible purpose, just putting my feelings at that specific moment on paper. Saying that, I was just mulling over about when I am going to depart from this dimension, and in what manner. Would dearly like to die on the plains of my ancestors, but those days are gone. Hence the, “die a noble death”

    These is the prayer of most men, whether they know it or not. To die for a reason, and not feel that life was given without purpose. I was on that front line, but somehow lived. Now, I just try to figure out why.

    As one who was diagnosed with two life threatening illnesses, one of them cancer, I had a prayer about facing death.
    I asked to be able to finish well. To die without any hint of self pity, to face it with courage and dignity.

    Curious, is this why you call yourself two time winner?

    Cursed is the ground for your sake;
    In toil you shall eat of it
    All the days of your life.
    Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you,
    And you shall eat the herb of the field.
    In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread
    Till you return to the ground,
    For out of it you were taken;
    For dust you are,
    And to dust you shall return.

    Like a bird on the wire, like a drunk midnight choir, I have tried in my way to be free.

    Curious, is this why you call yourself two time winner?

    That is 90% of it and growing. The other 10% is divorced once and now almost twice, some folks would call me a two time loser. A two time loser, in some states, is a person who has been convicted of two felonies. A third conviction will send him to prison for life.
    So if I turned the Loser to Winner by having came out alive and almost well after two fatal illnesses and two fatal marriages then I am a Two Time Winner Twice. I left out the Twice as I thought if three screen names are excessive then four is over the top.

    Perhaps. I should have said, “this is the prayer of most men.” Bothers me now that I see my error. I would like to help others, but I think that I am too much of a jerk most of the time now. I am not the person I once was. I will share my experiences to hopefully help others, but it is up to the others to take or leave it. Either way, good piece, Colin.

    Maybe I am not reading it right but I don’t get it. Thou is the old English 2nd person singular, used like tu in French familiarly. It is sometimes used for talking to a paternal god because it is familiar unlike you (or vous in French) which is polite but distant.

    If we substitute the modern you and your for thou and thy I can’t make sense of it unless the poet is wishing death on his god but then the genitives in the first line don’t work. If we assume “thy servant” for “thy” in the first line then the cases in the last line don’t add up.

    Maybe I am too old fashioned and its modern poetry?

    Not knocking the sentiment though -so long as it is meant the way the others are reading it.

    A woman is like fire -fun to play with, can warm you through and cook your food, needs constant feeding, can burn you and consume all you own

    You are probably right. I should have used thee(or something other) rather than thou…..forgive me

    Its OK mate, I am just a helpless pedant.

    I think just substitute I, me and my for all the second person thee and thy and you have a lovely little poem. You could make yourself 3rd person with “thy servant” but I think there is beauty in telling it simple and straight.

    I did originally, but then thought it would sound more poetic with Ye Olde English. Stick with what I know next time, crass poems!
