Governor OKs payment to Brian Banks for time spent in prison on false rape alleg

Jerry Brown on Wednesday authorized a nearly $1 million payout to three wrongfully convicted former prisoners, including Brian Banks, a former Poly High football star who was exonerated on a rape conviction three years ago.

Banks will receive $142,200 after spending five years behind bars. He was exonerated after his accuser, Wanetta Gibson, a fellow student, recant her story. In 2002, Banks was a 17-year-old football standout at Poly High, attending summer school ahead of his senior year, when he had what he always maintained was a consensual encounter with Gibson.Gibson later claimed Banks raped her. Facing a 41-year sentence for rape and kidnapping, Banks, who once received a scholarship offer from USC, pleaded no contest in order to receive fewer years behind bars. Gibson recanted her rape story to a private investigator in 2011, after she sent Banks a friend request on Facebook. Banks, who had served more than five years in prison and had to register as a sex offender, asked Gibson to meet with him and the private investigator.

I really hope they start giving false accusers the same sentence, a man convicted of rape would, so when a real rape case drops, it won’t get questioned as much, even with clear evidence. It’s insane that women can go free by reporting a rape that never happened, just because they regretted their last night’s drunk ride, and often when a man’s been cleared he still has the mark in register, while the woman just gets a slap on the hand, she should face years.

At least he received some compensation and closure, he’ll also get a civil judgement as well. Again the fact that these women are given zero consequences is atrocious and contemptible.

In my country the same politician who made a law in which a woman can accused you without any proof of assault and you must to prove you are innocent and not vice versa and that said that the false accusations doesn’t exist… his woman accused him of assault and he said that this is a false accusation… how cool is that?

Guy loses his future, his scholarship, 5+ years of his life, his reputation and respect, and he’s STILL going to get s~~~ on.
