A couple of months ago my self and 2 other friends went out looking for places to live. We all still live at home and our parent’s aren’t kicking us out or anything, but we are in our late 20’s and want to live on our own. We first went to a house that was for rent and we waited in the back yard for the guys wife to finish with the other group. When it was our turn she wasn’t as talkative or friendly like with the family before us. It was just a basic tour and she mentioned there were other families who already put in their names. When we got back to the car we realized they most likely wanted another family to rent to instead of 3 guys so we went around looking at apartments and that is where the fun began. Most of the apartment offices were closed because it makes perfect sense to close the offices on weekends when people have the time to look. Anyway there were a few open and many were a bit out of our price range. We eventually find a place that we could afford and it was near my work so I could walk to work. Well guess what? It is rent controlled and we made too much money. Later when we looked into all those other places that were closed it was the same issue. Either the places is too expensive for us or the ones that are in our price range are rent controlled and we don’t qualify. Now I am glad there are programs that allow for people to get affordable housing because there are some people who legit need it, but my problem is that people like me and my friends who work are stuck. We work and want to pay rent but we either make too much for rent control or too little for other places yet while we were at many of those rent control places a woman who got knocked up with 3 kids all different dads and working a crappy job would get to live there, just doesn’t seem right that people like us are getting shafted.

After our search as done guess how many apartments in the area have market value places that we could afford? 2. Yeah in the whole area we only qualify for 2 places. Yes me and another friend don’t have the highest end jobs right now, but if we were women with kids and no baby daddy we would naturally qualify for way more apartments.

Yep, and don’t leave out financial assistance for getting a new car, a nice cell phone, food, cable TV, and whatever else she needs to keep her and her little darlings body and soul together. You’d be amazed what a person can buy with an EBT card these days.

This isnt surprising. Yep – total BS. Single men LAST.

BTW, I wanted to read your entire post, but its difficult when its a WALL of text. Thats not a dig on you. Many people do it, but please make some paragraphs as its easier on the eyes and I honestly would like to read the entire post.

As in, make an indentation after 3 sentences; which is a normal sized paragraph. Its simply difficult to read otherwise.

In the state I live they have this internet program where you can basically get high speed internet from comcast for only $9.95 a month as long as your child qualifies for free or reduced cost lunch. That is good for kids who really can’t afford internet, but it is very easy to qualify for free lunch and the schools don’t even check. I used to work in the cafeteria’s as a sub you see kids with free lunch come through the lines with their Air Jordans and American Eagle clothes. Then when they take out their wallet to buy a cookie or beef jerky since those aren’t free you see big bills in their wallet. When a kid who is on free lunch is wearing the newest Jordans and expensive clothes decides not to buy the cookie because he doesn’t want to break any of the 20’s in his wallet there is a problem.

I am all for helping people that needed it, but how is it right that men like us get nothing when all we ask for is even the smallest amount of help yet others get away with completely scamming the the system.

It’s ridiculous. A few years ago, when I was making less money, I wish I would’ve applied for an apartment that was closer to my job (and only available to low income tenants).

"I saw that there comes a point, in the defeat of any man of virtue, when his own consent is needed for evil to win-and that no manner of injury done to him by others can succeed if he chooses to withhold his consent. I saw that I could put an end to your outrages by pronouncing a single word in my mind. I pronounced it. The word was ‘No.’" (Atlas Shrugged)

    Try this:

Only 2 of you go to look. Claim you’re a couple and hoping to get into a larger place because you really want to adopt a kid and start a family. While there, mention that another place refused to rent to you because you are gay and how sad you are that such open discrimination is still so prevelant. Talk about how you’re just trying to start a life together like any other couple. You just want a family. Etc.

Once they rent to you, have the 3rd member of your group added to the lease.

You will find that society has you accommodation all sorted for you.

Back of the hardware store you will find cardboard boxs and trolleys.

There is your cheap housing ….. especially for men.

@Bard. I hear you. The discrimination for accommodation regarding single young guys can be a bastard.

I learned a clever little trick back when I was in my 20’s, and a lot of places wouldn’t be rented out to single males due to the party problems in my town often inherent or perceived with young guys on their own, or with a couple of buddies in tow.

I used to put on a shirt and tie, black pants, look my best…………but best of all………….I would have a limp. Just enough so that you could notice. They’d notice the limp but never ask.

It’s amazing how all of a sudden you are no longer a young, single white guy just raging for a party. You’re suddenly a very serious individual with a slight handicap.

From bong-blazing, beer swilling trailer-park slime (in their eyes) to hard-working, up against the odds straight up “injusticed” young man with the slight dragging of a foot.

Call it dirty, but I needed a place to live.

Haha you reminded me of the times back in the days when I would show up for work a little tipsy and try to hide it by limping.

I read recently that a famous MRA guy affiliated with “A Voice for Men”, could have been Dean Esmay (sp?) said that no one was ever going to give a s~~~ about anything that happens to men.

    I think he’s right.

Great stuff guys, but even if we pretended to be gay I don’t know if we would qualify because we still might make too much. Sure it is worth a try, but I feel like they would just refer us to a gay help line lol.
