Almost an hour before his inflammatory interview on MSNBC, Deputy Assistant to the President Sebastian Gorka joined Alisyn Camerota on CNN’s “New Day.”

Things meandered along swimmingly throughout the first half of the interview until Camerota brought up Donald Trump Jr.’s meeting with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya.

When asked if he thought it was “a good idea” for Trump Jr. to take the meeting, Gorka snapped back, quipping, “Was it a good idea for the DNC to send its operatives to the Ukrainian embassy?”

    And things spiraled from there.

Camerota tried to get the conversation back on track, asking about Veselnitskaya’s possible ties to the Kremlin, but Gorka dodged again.

“There was no connection,” Gorka claimed. “She was a private lawyer who had an interest with regard to the Russian adoption program and used a pretext to get a meeting with the campaign, which the campaign representatives almost immediately realized was not done in good faith.”

As the interview continued to go off the rails, Gorka took a moment to lob an insult at the cable news network.

“This is the shocking thing,” he said. “Again, the amount of time you spend in desperation on a topic that has plummeted you to 13th place in viewership ranking across America. More people watch Nick at Night cartoons than CNN today.”

Camerota, for her part, laughed the comment off, claiming that she’s

“sure more people are interested in watching ‘House of Cards’ than whatever you’re doing as well. However, our ratings are just fine, and the American people say they’re quite interested in what’s going on…”

As the terse back-and-forth continued, Gorka took the opportunity to bring up his colleague Kellyanne Conway’s appearance on the same show just the day before.

After claiming that CNN was “not journalism,” Gorka tried to make a point about Conway’s prolonged appearance on the show Monday morning, saying that she — and he, by proxy — was trying to “redress the balance” of the dialogue between the Trump administration and the media.

“It was our decision that we should try and redress the balance,” Gorka claimed of himself and Conway. “You were very gracious to accept it. But if you don’t like the answers, that’s not my problem.”

Camerota claimed to be simply “looking for answers,” before thanking Gorka for his time.
