Fascinating game. I’m not really satisfied with his explanation of white’s bishop to g5 at 4:59. I would have loved to see what white would have done had black taken the bishop. That move is puzzling to me.

I think the reason he says this is because in that position, half of Black’s army is still in the barracks while his king is coming under extreme pressure. You actually WANT Black to take your bishop with the h-pawn. This exposes the Black king’s position to attack.

Sometimes it’s worth sacrificing a bishop or a knight to open up the enemy king for a mating attack. Especially when White’s pieces are much more developed & active. Black’s not gonna have any time to get his other pieces out because his king is going to be flushed out into the open with a bunch of checks (and likely mated in short order).

Here’s a much better analysis of this game. He gives much more detail about why that bishop is poisoned. Danny Rensch is one of my fave chess YouTubers…very entertaining and also a good teacher.

Actually, Danny explains why the knight is poisoned, not the bishop. Taking the bishop however would extend the game considerably but Stockfish itself shows that my statement is right…the king comes under heavy attack and Black’s army isn’t organized enough to rebuff it.
