I went to my local Sports Authority to check if there’s anything good left at a good discount, and I see that my location is officially cleaned out and closed. Too bad, because I was looking for weight plates, a punching bag and/or a better bike.

Funny since 1917 when they’ve been in business, they survived the Great Depression, but they couldn’t survive Obama.

Good-bye Sports Authority. For me it’s either Dicks Sporting Goods, or Gander Mountain where I live.

At least there was a good shop at your city, where you could buy all the good things and bike parts etc. Imagine, in my location if I want a part for my downhill bike, they look at me as if I asked for a flux capacitor for an UFO… Most shops only stock low-end budget parts, that are too s~~~ty even for a city bike, not to mention something harder use. There are a few shops which have mediocre quality parts on stock for city bikes, on exaggerated price tag. So if I want good stuff, I either order it from the capital city by post, or from an English web shop, or buy it second hand from other enthusiasts. And imagine my situation before the internet and web shops became mainstream: that time I had a problem on my bike in every 100 kilometers.

So I suggest to go to some internet second hand sales site, and get some few year old high end stuff for cheap price. I typically succeed in that. If you are not at home when the postmen comes, ask them if there are some package pick-up locations. I spent a few thousands of dollars worth in this way, did not have bad experiences with second hand stuff so far. Of course it will need some maintenance and cleaning. But be careful with unknown web shops, and check their tax number at the public database of the authorities (if there is such thing in there), if they had cheated on paying taxes in the past, they are more likely to run away with your money. Once I lost 300 dollars worth this way in a fraudulent shop, police is still not finding them after 2 years.

As much as I hate living in the city, I have to confess that it’s nice having not one but TWO, high-end bike shops on my short drive to work, not to mention lots of other outdoor gear shops. Of course, that’s also how I ended up with a brand new mountain bike last summer — one that cost more than my f~~~ing car.

I would blame it more on online shopping because its become the more convenient way to shop. You can check reviews from other shoppers as well as getting it cheaper and delivered to your doorstep. No more waiting behind a single mother trying to balance her checkbook at checkout.

Never lose sight of what brought you here.

I can confirm that, good bikes are expensive, I could have a 10 year old car on the price of my DH bike, and it’s not even the most fancy (and fragile) carbon fiber thing, approximately 2/3 second hand parts. But, we are MGTOWs, no one can tell us what we spend our money on. Men desire adrenaline, and you cannot get that in a car in any legal way, street speeding and racing is illegal, and dangerous. And if you fall off the bike while getting adrenaline, you do not get injured that much, nor the bike. And a bike is way better to go to the local beautiful places to take photos for your computer wallpaper. (I have no driving licence yet, I will once do that but I’m not sure if I want a car at all, I do not need it for my everyday stuff, and I wont have children to carry to school.)

Well I heard 1917 on TV when it was announced they were going out of business.
