Hey gentlemen,
In regards to those who gave me invaluable advice and interesting insight to my ideas as far as work goes, I thank you all.
I picked up a comprehensive starter book for the C# language to learn in my own time. I decided that within the I.T. realm, the ultimate goal for me would be to become a software developer. It’s a robust field, a niche within I.T. which allows you to channel your logical and creative side to build programs… even if the product is a simple calculation program for say, a financial institution. I’m still applying for entry level jobs of all sorts of tech fields. Not much luck so far, but what else am I gonna do? Cry about it? No.
The idea of learning something on my own two feet and breaking into the field is somewhat scary to me. It is a risk of time. Time I will never get back. But hey, the last time I didn’t take a risk, I ended up investing my time into a marketing degree instead of an engineering one, because I let the rigorous mathematics and physics courses scare me off. Not this time. Not to mention, the knowledge of programming in my own time, coupled with the interest and passion I have for engineering and technology now, would make me a better student than my 19 year old self. Eventually doing Computer Science, and possibly a minor in Electrical/Computer Engineering is on the cards.
I realised that with the danger of being disposable and the timidness of modern office politics, that I need to be my own boss. Software/Computer engineering? A now regarded and growing discipline of engineering – check. Programming being a skill that can be internalised and turned into a self-driven entrepreneurial opportunity so you can make good money and be your own boss – check. The ability to work remotely whether you’re crunching away in your bedroom or on a remote beach in Thailand – check. The epitome of a means of making a living while going your own way – check, check, check.
I look forward to this adventure, and I can’t wait to see where it goes and where it will take me. It really will test my sense of drive and chase for what I want in this life – freedom and a means of living. Wish me luck.
Good luck!
Anonymous54Good luck Sam! I think one of the worst things in life would be to look back and wonder what would have happened if I had gone for it. What ever the out come,it’s better than wondering what if.
Build things using the language and share them with us. This forum is a good place for that and you learn a thing or two.
A MGTOW is a man who is not a woman's bitch!
Thanks guys.
@atton, when I make a mini arcade game, I’ll put it up on there.
@WentCampging, I thought IT guys would be too “nerdy” for them? Don’t worry, I’m always sceptical about the women I get involved with so I always ensure I never do anything which will trap me within their grasp.
