Hit it in 2015. Time to hit it again. Got some new gear I want to test out. Means I will have to prep my clothes with anti-tick and dust off my S&W model 69 for the boars and black bears. Honestly, I didn’t need it last time though I saw a s~~~-ton of boars when I hit Virginia.
S~~~ty part is I will have to get back on local trails to recondition back to carrying a 35lb pack.

Sounds like a great idea. I’ve heard it said, time is old there. Those ticks are no joke, I have to be very careful of deer ticks in the spring where I’m from. I’ve heard the lone star tick is also dangerous. I alway tuck my shirt in and pull my socks over my pants legs, and inspect often. Make sure to have a camera ready for Bigfoot.

This is exactly what MGTOW is about: We can do s~~~ like this because we control our own lives. Have a great hike!

    Enjoy your hike.
I have stealth camped while working out of state for
    many a summer.
Nothing like stepping out on faith wanting for nothing
    and getting what you need.
    Solitude is rewarding in itself.
I would never have gained my level
    of understanding without alone time.

we get to know spirits within.

I was bound to be misunderstood, and I laugh at those who misunderstand me. Kind mockery at the well intentioned, but unfettered cruelty towards those would be prison guards of my creative possibilities. This so as to learn as much from misunderstanding as from understanding. Taking pleasure in worthy opponents and making language fluid and flowing like a river yet pointed and precise as a dagger. Contradicts the socialistic purpose of language and makes for a wonderful linguistic dance, A verbal martial art with constant parries that hone the weapon that is the two edged sword of my mouth.

If you’re going as far north as Vermont, look me up! I have a place not far from the trail you can layover (unless it’s sold), otherwise we could meet up for a civilized meal! I never hiked the whole northern appellation trail but have hiked many sections of it and crossed it a million times on snowmobile! I’ve been on most it’s mountain tops and ridges on any given season! Winter without the foliage when skiing it or snowmobiling, you see allot more! Plus no mosquitoes and biting flies to eat you alive!!! I remember running away from the swarms of horse flies! Swatting while I RAN!

You’re going to walk the entire thing or just a section? Dont’ they get started around April to complete it before winter freezes out the end of the trail?

Anyway good luck, seems like quite an adventure from what little i’ve read about it. Better start conditioning now, only have a few months.

In 2015 I went from Maine to NY. I think this time I will make a jaunt from NY to Virginia. I won’t know until I get my ass on a trail near home and see what my hiking is like with an actual pack on instead of just a 15lb day-pack. Got my walking staffs handy.
Be nice if I could use my mountain bike with its panniers but there is still a blanket ban on all bikes.

Go take a hike! I know one guy who did the entire trail in one swoop and I respect anyone that covers even part of it.

    Chir,

Best advice I can give is to go ultralight. Weigh everything, then methodically work your way to eliminate every single unnecessary ounce by either replacement with lighter materials, complete omission, or making as much of your gear as multi-purpose as possible. Log each item in a spreadsheet along with weight and track how many times you’ve used it in warm up trips. I can easily do 5-7 days in chilly weather at no more than 25lbs….including water. Makes a huge difference on your knees, hips and feet over many miles. Lighter pack = lighter boots = moving faster.

    Safe travels!

Chit, one more thing, I just saw your second post about. Inking. DO NOT BIKE PENNSYLVANIA. Pa is nearly completely rocks, mountain biking would be very ill advised unless you are a very skilled mountain biker. I’ve done swaths of it in most states, everyone agrees, Pennsylvania is rocky! Bring comfortable shoes and comfortable sleeping gear!

Yea familiar with PA rocks. LoL. Back in college went on a hike through PA and we went fossil hunting. We made hidden caches after we hit each area to pick the fossils up later but by the end of the trip we were hauling 50lbs of the best fossils in in our packs. I admit that was fairly dumb, but I was young and indestructible. We went back later with a pickup truck and took out another 700lbs of good fossils. Still have a 2 foot tall slate fossil of a fern preserved and mounted on my wall.

    Update:
Yup I’m old. Have had to drop my pack weight down to 40lbs. “oldmanknees” Heh.

Have a BP friend who has one of these for carting out deer kills after throwing out the gut pile.
I think I might borrow his to test out how well it works for hiking. I mean, I could take 60lbs and have no pack on my back. Its called the Honey Badger Wheel. You can attach pack panniers to it.
