As many of you know, Sony is moving forward with a female-lead Ghost Busters film. Today, it was announced the role of the secretary, Annie Potts, will be taken over by…Chris Hemsworth.

So, I find this funny for a few reasons. As much as women complain about how they are objectified and only appreciated for how they look, they seem to have no problem with something like this. It also points out the fact that women aren’t about representation like they claim, or they would have been fighting to keep the role for women. The fact remains it’s about moving their (gratuitous) weight around and showing who is boss.

But I’m calling it right now: They’re going to write him with a gushing, inexplicable crush on Melissa McCarthy’s character. You know…because equality. She’ll ignore him the whole movie while he is her pussy-puppy until the end, when she finally “grants” him a kiss/make-out/sex. As Mr. Zies pointed out in another thread, the old formula is getting REAL stale.

I think you have probably guessed right there. It’s also odd as the original Annie Potts/Secretary character wasn’t hot anyway.

I believe this film will be a massive failure, McCarthy is over estimated as star power and I don’t even think women want to watch female ghostbusters.

Not to mention the original film is still loved even by people who were born well after it was made.

I agree. But hey, they need a hunky male-secretary obsessed with McCarthy because its the horror love story every woman wants to see play out.

I hope so; I’m part of that group you mentioned. McCarthy annoys the f~~~ out of me and the only person in the cast who seems worth a damn is Kirsten Wiig and she doesn’t have enough star power to drive the film, either. Neither one of them are nearly as funny or talented as Murray or Aykroyd.

Rebooting the series is a bad idea.  If they did a continuity and spinoff, I can understand that, but a reboot?

I should clarify in saying, a reboot with women in the place of the male characters.  My feeling on a reboot is that it resets canon of a series.  There has to be good reasons for this.  Again, I don’t have issue with a spinoff, but keep that film universe consistent.

An abomination, is what it is.

Ghostbusters needs no reboot, especially not a feminazi reboot, I hope it tanks hard.

The obvious double standards these women surely will conjure, will probably be vomit inducing as well.

Reboots only show that Hollywood is intellectually bankrupt and completely lacking in creativity.

Female Ghost Busters, Okay, NO, Never…ever….

Maybe we can use this movie to profile manginas  and white knights, kinda like Brokeback Mountain…..

Because in order to be able to think, you have to risk being offensive.

I’m not stopping until I see an all-male Charlie’s Angels happen.  Not because I really want to “SEE” the movie, but it’s only fair…

Also, I’m betting that they’ll make Hemsworth look like a total dork being a secretary.  That’s basically my job right now and I’m made fun of quite often for it.  I get the college chicks coming in here all the time (I work at a University, as most know), and they ask me “you are the secretary?”

Usually I’ll remind them what great benefits I get by working for the state, and the great potential I have to move up…and I get tuition reimbursement if I pass my classes.  Now, mind you, I don’t say these things to impress them.  I just remind them subtly how I’m very happy on my own and how great the school benefits are helping me, and only me.

Call me naive if you want, but I’d like to believe it’s because no one is allowed to really SAY anything anymore without p~~~ing off some weird-ass demographic.

Yeah, there’s that “gender equality” in action for you.

If they wanted to continue the franchise and have a all female cast they should have just picked 4 younger actresses and made them daughters of the original 4. A woman actor who can act similar to Bill Murray and could easily be identified as Peter Venkmans daughter would be a much better type of movie.

I doubt the storyline  is going to be identical to the first.  Not only will it be boring, but there’s not way they can have female key master and make gate keeper…it’s genetics.  I imagine they’ll work in the slimmer ghost and stay puff marshmallow man somehow though.

As for the objectification of Hemsworth, don’t care.   The argument regarding media’s effects on people’s attitude has been way overblown.   Violence in video games, doesn’t make people violent.    Seeing a moronic man in a tv commercial doesn’t make men moronic.    Women are going to ogle over Hemsworth whether he’s playing Thor or playing a secretary.  Whatever.  Don’t care.

    Ok. Then do it.

first up it will be completely unfunny on every level as women just aren’t funny

second it will have massive sections of the film dedicated to their feelings and the Marshmallow Man will be misunderstood – the usual bulls~~~
