just don’t need this .. another hoop to jump through
years ago, maybe, during horse and buggy era,
not now
thanks for letting me rant … hav’a nice dayI agree, its high time we abandon that thing. It doesnt help anyway because of the extreme variance of sunlight hours… it doesnt help business hours at all. In winter, the sun is down and its totally DARK at 6pm. But in Summer, you still have light at 730pm. And mind you this is between the tropic of cancer and tropic of capricorn… Day light Savings is a preposterous notion in the polar regions like Norway…..
Just move to a tropical country…Americans are still using imperial units instead of the logical metric system and it has been ages trying to change that. Perhaps DST has its uses but moving to a tropical country would be a better choice…
I stand with feet apart and let my balls hang free...Manginas dont have balls...See how they stand and sit at the whim of their masters...
I thought it was about trying to alleviate high electricity demand during peak hours because of low light.
I agree. It’s a pain in the ass and unnecessary in this day and age.
No one I know likes it either so why are we still doing it? So one more hour of sunlight, woop-de-f~~~in’-do. If we have to keep doing it, I’m thinking of leaving my clocks alone and just adjust my schedule by one hour. Instead of working 8 to 5, now I work from 7 to 4.
It is dumb that we still do this.

Personally, I’d rather drive to work in the dark and come home when its light. Then I can work outside after work, but it would be impractical to work outside BEFORE work.
All my life I've had doubts about who I am, where I belonged. Now I'm like the arrow that springs from the bow. No hesitation, no doubts. The path is clear. And what are you? Alive. Everything else is negotiable. Women have rights; men have responsibilities; MGTOW have freedom. Marriage is for chumps. If someone stands in the way of true justice, you simply walk up behind them and stab them in the heart-R'as al Ghul.

Sometimes, I like to eat late, so it does help when I want to fire up the grill later than normal.

There are still plenty of jobs that rely on day light to work. However, those works are adjusting their hours seasonally anyway. It doesn’t matter how you change the clock, outside laborers are going to work longer in the summer than the winter.
I wouldn’t just get rid of daylight savings though, I’d get rid of time zones altogether. What exactly does that gain us? The idea of time zones is the same as daylight savings, to try and have the same positioning of the sun/light levels at the same time on the clock no matter what time of year or where you are on the planet. But the modern world is much less dependent on the sun’s position than we used to be, and have to figure out proper time when traveling or communicating over timezones just adds confusion. Is there even really any scheduled events that benefit from timezones at all anymore?
Ok. Then do it.

It wouldn’t really be fair for a guy on the east coast to start his day at 8 am while the guy on the west coast has to be at work by 5 am. By what you’re saying it should be the same time all over, but one guy is going to work in the daylight while the other guy is going to work in the dark. Most people like to coordinate their activities with sunlight and darkness. Seems to me that time zones are very necessary.

Sometimes, I like to eat late, so it does help when I want to fire up the grill later than normal.I’ve been known to weed and dig in my garden during the summer, until like 8, and then pick fruit & veg to eat (in lieu of cooking dinner) until like 8:30 and then come in. Nothing like feasting on sugar snap peas, tomatoes, blueberries & strawberries. (when I water the garden is when I pull up and eat some small root crops like carrots and radishes)

Maybe we won’t have to change our clocks anymore, but I don’t like the idea of keeping it on daylight saving time. I’d prefer we keep it on normal time year round.

All I’m hoping for this year are some really good tomatoes.

So you have to spend 10 seconds of your life adjusting your clocks twice a year, which is still less than half a minute. So what? After a day, you’re fully adjusted to it as if it never happened. I actually like it, because I like seeing the sun at 8:45 PM in the summer.

I think time zones are more beneficial than daylight savings. No, that’s not what I’m saying at all. Companies should hold business hours as they wish. As it stands right now, companies on the east coast typically start business 3 hours (I think) before companies on the West Coast. Removing timezones does not mean that needs to change. What it would mean is that East Coast businesses would typically start at 8 AM while West Coast would start at 11 AM (although the times would actually be different depending on how it’s defined). It would be a change for everyone at first, but once done, there’d be no change ever again.
Events and travel times don’t adjust for timezones anyway. If an event, a sporting event like the Superbowl for example, is happening at 5 PM, it’s happening at the same absolute time everywhere on the planet. It does not matter what’s happening with the Sun on your part of the world. If we had an absolute time scale, than there would be no need to translate for timezone. Or perhaps the New York stock exchange. It opens and closes at an absolute time, no adjustment for which time zone you’re in or where the sun is in the sky.
As far as travel goes, a plane flight that takes 3 hours doesn’t decrease to 1 hours because you went from Central time to Pacific timezones. You aren’t gaining 2 hours, you’re just going to a place where people have started their ‘day’ 2 hours behind you.

Day light savings time isn’t making the days longer, it’s going to happen with or without government interference. A company can just as easily decide to move it’s hours of operation back an hour if they want to give their employees more off work daylight if they want to. Personally, since my job doesn’t depend on daylight, I’d rather go to work in in the dark and maximize daylight hours regardless if whether it’s summer or winter.
Ok. Then do it.

Ah, I get what you mean now. However, we already have a world time and anyone can go by that if they wish, I suppose. In fact, I believe the military goes by Universal Time when they go on missions, so no matter where they are in the world, it’s always the same time, (UTC). If I understand it correctly, since it’s the 9th hour here where I am, UTC should be in the 15th hour.
I actually like that idea. No matter where you are relative to my position on the globe, it’s 15:00 for both of us, if we go by what time it is on the 0 meridian. Yeah, I could really get used to that. It would be easier, wouldn’t it? It’s 15 hundred hours here and it’s 15 hundred hours in Tokyo.
Ah s~~~, I guess I don’t understand how it works because I just looked up the UTC and it’s 2:30 something. Anyway, it’d still be good to use UTC globally.

Right that’s the point. There would still be some issues of adjustment when traveling as people are going to have events (meals, work schedule, etc) at different times than your biological clock is used to. But you won’t have to make adjustments for timezones when figuring out when an event in another part of the world is happening.

Plus, UTC doesn’t do the daylight savings time s~~~. That was screwing me up a little bit ago when I was trying to convert to UTC.
Now, how do we get the whole world to convert to UTC? Doubt that will ever happen because people don’t like change even if it’s an improvement.
