I was living in California only months before Carlin died, and managed to get tickets to see him live. I have to say, seeing Carlin live only months before he died is one of the best memories I have in my adult life. Despite the fact that it was completely obvious he was extremely ill. Still, it was on my list of things I wanted to accomplish in my life, and I managed to do just that, only a few performances before his death.

George Carlin was one of the best comedians of his time. He actually provoked meaningful thoughts among his audience and made us laugh at the same time.

To quote one of his best lines:

“When you’re born into this world, you’re born to a freak show. When you’re born in America, you have front row seats to that freak show.” – George Carlin.

When I was a kid I would memorize every single line in every single album he came out with. To this day I can still fire off some of his routines word for word. He was on of the single greatest influences on my life.

I’m glad that he is being remembered for the biting social and political commentary that made up most of his later work. In his death I think he’s become an even greater, anti-establishment voice than he was while alive.

And if you’ve never seen the video of Loui CK’s tribute to George Carlin, then I highly recommend it. Louis CK Honors George Carlin

Oh man, I nearly did the same, but regretfully I did not do it. I have been a fan of his since I was a kid as well. I have nearly everything he has ever done on VHS and DVD. I wish he were around post-Obama, it would have been interesting to see what he would have done. As it stands he passed away to soon in Obama’s reign to really gather material on him and pass judgment on his administration.

I never got to see Carlin either. He really did help me wake the f~~~ up. Whenever I start to feel a little like I’m in an echo chamber, which happens more frequently in election years, I listen to some of his stuff and it helps me keep the edges from getting too dull.
