Before I get too far I’ll show the opening of the game because I feel it gives a good idea of what to expect for those who might not enjoy it regardless of quality.

Basically it’s something with a lot of fan service for weaboos. As cringey as it may be to many, and I realize it’s a bit of a niche, I don’t hold much shame in it. Suppose I may have got used to it over the years already from women and white knights alike for it to bother me anymore.

That all said, I do think this series is a bit unique in the apparent age of the characters in the game. Others might be similar, but never explicit. This, on the other hand, takes place in a high school, evidently in Japan, so while age is never necessarily given, it’s kind of implied. I can’t really fault anyone for being disgusted by it.

Personally, I’m the type of person who hates that you can’t kill kids in games, or at least in those where you can kill everyone else. Very few are bearable to me, many are annoying, and I feel it’s especially stupid in Metal Gear Solid V specifically, where it’s supposed to have taboos and child soldiers like to act like adult soldiers and yet harming them one bit is an instant game over. So much for Big Boss becoming a demon. In any case, I like to think most normal people separate fiction from reality well enough, perhaps some have a line and there’s a difference between violence and sexual content, but it doesn’t bother me at least.

The tone of the game is meant to be funny. Never to be taken too seriously. I will say the story did get more interesting than I thought it would be, which makes me question the validity of other reviews saying the game is only about sex, but it’s nothing absolutely amazing. Just interesting enough to keep going.

Getting to the meat of the game, it’s pretty much a light gun game with very basic dating sim elements. Unfortunately I do have to say I preferred Gal*Gun Double Peace more in a lot of ways.

DP was on rails, and had you select alternate routes through each level that would lead to different branches in story as well as finding different items for subquests. Different branches also relied on dialogue choices, which were also determined by basic character stats that you could upgrade, with different classes you could choose at the start. You could also buy upgrades and health extensions.

GG2, on the other hand, is a bit more like a gallery shooter, standing in one place and only moving on once every enemy in one area is taken out, making it hard to miss extra stuff. Subquests now have their own missions, as do the branching paths. Kind of gets rid of the variation sadly. No more stats, you simply get food to give each girl and there seem to be very little consequences for different dialogue options. No shop, you just get trinkets at the end of each day for accumulated score. Lastly, not much for upgrades, and health is simple regeneration now.

I won’t say it’s all bad. Did enjoy the motion aiming, though I can’t say much for the Switch version since I’ve got the PS4 one. And I can understand the lack of on rails since supposedly it was modeled after a VR version I’ve never heard of. I suppose the simple mission structure makes it easier to replay them for different endings.

Overall I do think I enjoyed DP more, but this was a better game than I thought it would be given the awful reviews it’s received since it’s “sexist”.

I can’t honestly recommend at full price, but if you’re either a light gun or anime fan I think it’d be worth it for half or lower.
