While “fried chicken” is served world wide as a menu item, is it historically credited as being first served in China, West Africa and the Middle East. The first European culture to serve fried chicken was Scottish, everyone else or baked/boiled their chicken. The American-style fried chicken was first documented around 1747 and probably was cooked by Scottish Immigrants.

So what is American-style fried chicken you ask, it is bone-in chicken that is battered and fried once. Other types are twice fried and often are boneless. Greg Honda found it a very interesting style while eating at Zaxby’s Chicken during his visit.

Whether it is home cooked, cooked at your local gas (petrol) station, or made at a franchise location, fried chicken is here to stay in the Southern United States. Eaten cold or hot, along with side-dishes or not, seasoned mild or very hot, fried chicken is good almost anytime and place.

Sampling of Fried Chicken franchises: Kentucky Fried Chicken (Est 1930-Kentucky), BoJangles (Est 1977-North Carolina), Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen (Est 1972-Louisiana), Church’s Chicken (Est 1952-Texas), Zaxby’s Chicken (Est 1990-Georgia) and many others can be found off interstates and deep within cities throughout the U.S.

And yes, I will be having fried chicken, rice, pinto beans and biscuits for supper tonight.

    Eaten cold

Yup. I think that is a southern thing. As a Kentucky man I can tell you that those northerners can’t deal with cold fried chicken. LOL

Damn it Greg now I’m hungry!

These Yankees do not realize that good, homemade, cold chicken salad is made from chicken that is first fried.

Absolutely Faust, I actually save 1/4 to 1/3 of any fried chicken for just this purpose. As you know, chicken salad can be made from any chicken meat, but there’s nothing like doing it step, by step, by step at home. That includes fresh baked bread of course.

The April 2017 edition of “Our State: Celebrating North Carolina” was the inspiration for this post as they listed 42 North Carolina chicken “joints”. None are franchised and I have actually eaten at quite a few of them, truly good stuff.

The computer should be shipped early next week and I’ll receive it, add software and ship it back ASAP. I plan to test with him today via phone to confirm that he can connect to web conferencing sessions. He was going through serious MGTOW withdrawal last night, but has been talking to other MGTOW brothers on the phone which really helps.

Thanks for the update GregBO! I was thinking of giving him a call, but I don’t want to be an annoying ass. He is a good man and helped me out a lot.

That’s what friends are for after all! I will dig a local breading recipe for you, but it is basically flour, salt and milk/butter milk and other spices/seasoning. I like a spicy flavour but can no longer handle the heat of hot peppers.

the frying style is regional but I have always seen and used the following with family/friends.
    * deep sided cast iron pan w/cover filled 1/2 way with peanut oil and heated to 375 deg.
    * Cook a few breasts or wings at a time (2 inches of space between). Wings and thighs are too much work with too little meat for me.
    * Cook 20-25 minutes until golden brown (180 deg F internal for chicken)
    * Once the chicken is initially browned, reduce heat to allow chicken to cook completely. 275 – 300 Deg F
    * Be careful turning chicken, use tongs to ensure you don’t poke the meat and release the juice. Splattered hot oil is very painful as you can imagine.
    * Once golden brown, remove and dry on a paper towel and then place it in the oven on wire racks for 5-10 minutes on 180. You can put the chicken on the upper rack and a pan/tray on the lower to catch grease. Drains off the grease and keeps everything crisp and warm.

    Best of luck

You are quite welcome MW. Do give him a call, he loves hearing from the MGTOW brotherhood and would not have given you his phone number if he did not want you to use it.

He is currently working on two firearms, so do leave a message if you call and he does not pickup. When in his gunsmith work room, he does not answer the phone for anyone as he is concentrating on the task at hand.

Hey GregB0 do you ever visit The Pit down there in Raleigh? I’ve been there twice, it’s a BBQ joint, I got brisket both times and don’t know if they have fried chicken on their menu or not. If they do I’m sure it’s amazing.

I just do a simple recipe (Yankee AF) haha I just use a boneless/skinless breast, eggwash, panko bread crumbs with some salt & pepper. Fry it on each side in vegetable oil for 5-10 minutes and enjoy. Nothing as flavorful as a bone-in bird but it works in a pinch. Sautee some mushrooms and onions and cook some rice too.

Don’t mean to hijack the thread but The Pit is amazing if anyone is near the Raleigh area.

I have eaten at The Pit Mudwhistle and they do have good fried chicken. Their BBQ is also good, but I’m not a huge fan of Eastern style BBQ. I do remember their Baby Back ribs as being very, very good.

I am a great fan of Danny’s Bar-B-Que off Miami Blvd in Raleigh. They are always crowded, only open for three hours a day and serve Brunswick stew as a vegetable-of-the-day! The owners are making money by the barrel.

Back in college, I used to love me some Bojangles chicken and dirty rice, cole slaw, baked beans, biscuit… or Fried chicken sandwich on buttermilk biscuit… OMG.

I eat Plant based now, and probably the only meat I ever am tempted by is southern fried chicken and charcoal grilled burgers.

There is a BJ’s 1 mile from work and I pass one driving from home to work every day. Sooner or later they get you! Kudo’s on sticking with your diet PRR.

It is funny. After I posted, I was thinking on why those foods are the ones that tempt me at times? Not Mahi Mahi, or grilled salmon, or steak and lobster, medium rare prime rib with au jus – all of which tastes better to me.
I grew up mostly in Virginia for my formative years, and Fried chicken and grilled burgers were a big part of that early life. So they are entwined with memories, family, friends and everything that is part of that life, comfort food so to speak.

A taste on my tongue alone would not be something I would trade my health for, so I am not tempted, but these comfort foods really grab hold of you on a deeper level.

I don’t think I would take it if I had to drive by a Bojangles every day… Sooner or later I would take that turn into the joint. lol
