Last week I introduced a Quiz for fun. You gentlemen are asked to identify the “mystery composer”. The clues were that three of his students/protegees went on to greater fame than the teacher. The first of the Mystery Composers’ students was Georg Friedrich Händel. Now an additional clue, Handel studied under the mystery composer some time between 1700-1707.

The next student of the mystery composer is none other than the Great one himself—Bach; Need I say more? Yes I do. There is a huge number of organ works I could pick from but as always I want to choose something not often heard. So tonight we have BWV 478 “Komm, süßer Tod, komm selge Ruh” (Come, sweet death, come, blessed rest) The lyrics to this chorale follow:

Komm, süßer Tod, komm selge Ruh!Komm führe mich in Friede, weil ich der Welt bin müde,ach komm! ich wart auf dich, komm bald und führe mich,drück mir die Augen zu.Komm, selge Ruh!

Come, sweet death, come, blessed rest!Come lead me to peace because I am weary of the world, O come! I wait for you, come soon and lead me,close my eyes.Come, blessed rest!

Hey Pete, lovin’ the music……I too am a amateur musician (Classical Guitar)……ALWAYS LOVED BACH, ON THE GUITAR.

Look up John Williams, at the Seville Concert, Playing Bach’s Prelude, in E maj, from his fourth suite for Lute…….the arpeggios in this piece are stunning, particularly the way Williams, plays them.

My Fave Pianist/Composer is Chopin…..Keep up posting music man……

…ALWAYS LOVED BACH, ON THE GUITAR.

Love that too (Julian Bream!) BUT my favorite classical lute composer is Charles Mouton (1617 – 1699)
