WOW Last weeks departure from the usual into the realm of the harpsichord was a smashing success. Viewership was resoundingly positive. So we will continue in that vein with a few more of my favorites.

We begin with J.S. Bach – Chromatic Fantasy & Fugue, BWV 903. Interestingly the chromatic key had largely been abandoned in Bach’s time as something archaic. True as a style it originates at the end of the Renaissance and beginning of the baroque about 1550. I happen to really like the chromatic key so apparently Bach was doing a homage to it with this work.

OK I’d like to leave out the French but we can’t. Music is after all something they actually got right for a change. so next we have: Francois Couperin: Pièces de Clavecin, 15éme ordre. I think I’ve discussed the life and time of F. Couperin on another thread so I’ll spare everyone the redundancy. Suffice to say he was a really talented French guy who composed a lot of tunes between 1668-1733, and ate a lot of french bread, probably banged one or two of those hairy french chicks to, but his music is pretty good.

If you really REALLY Like the French guy and have a lot of time on your hands:

    Adagio for strings.

Some of you will know this tune from Platoon.

There are a few tunes that still haunt me (some from my rave years) and this…

J.S. Bach sounds like a savage, you can tell he poured hes soul into making this music possible, the intensity and the casual repetition sounds awesome.

Thank you so much Pete, Another great one made possible by you!.
