Regarding debt being something that people choose:

In terms of consumer spending, the answer is yes.

But in the United States – Approximately 54% of people earn under $28,400 per year: Before taxes. And need housing, food and other necessities with the money that is left.

All things considered – That is in fact slavery. Especially when you factor in that the top 4% literally own over 80% of all wealth and assets.

So the question is not only whether or not debt (in all forms) is a choice, but rather – What kind of economic system exists that ultimately results in the majority of Americans having to take on debt just to be able to live a life that is not parallel to being a slave or indentured servant.

The answer is: An economic system that is intentionally orchestrated and set up to be based on debt. An entire economic system that is in place for the sole purpose of enslaving human beings under the veil of pseudo capitalism (where the average person thinks they are free) but it is actually a corporatist, neo-facistic, feudalist based scheme that ensures at least 50-60% of the population lives I a perpetual state of debt.

And in closing. The concept of “debt” is very fluid and easy to not understand.

    Example #1

My next door neighbor lives I a paid off $340,000 house. He had two kids. Both went to public school from 1st to 12th grade (12 years each / 24 years total) in this state where the annual cost (paid for with taxpayer funds) per child for public school is $12,800 per year.

He lives in a paid off $340,000 house because he did not have to pay for the $310,000 it cost for both of his kids to go to a public school for 12 years each.

He would be renting an apartment and “in debt” if he had been required to pay that $310,000

And there are numerous other examples of the shell game and smoke & mirrors going on.
