    Gentlemen,

I always love to craft stuff, especially such things. It’s plain cool to have such a tool and make it your self. Somehow like a vacation for me. No computers, no software foobar. Enjoy!

Sorry, non-native speaker here. Sorry if it sounded that way. I wish I had this kind of tools im my garage. But I am working on it! 🙂

Right now I am building my own crossbow. Bought one the other day, it’s a great piece of hardware. But when I had it in my hands I said to myself I can build one myself, too. Just because it’s fun.

While I don’t have the skills or the tools to make this knife. I believe what one man can do, so can another. I can learn these skills and over time become very efficient and skillful.

It is a treat to watch a master work his craft.

Indeed. And it does not matter if it is a master cook, a blacksmith or a watch maker. Just watching it is like a good movie, sometimes even better.

Thanks for your great reply Mr. Smith.. Now I was reading some of your previous posts.. You sound like a fascinating man.. please let me indulge with one more question, and it’s purely out of curiosity (since as a hobby I’ve been studying the Russian language) why did you pick such a controversial avatar? I mean Vladimir Putin’s picture!?

Thanks, now I have red ears 😀

First, I am no real fan of Putin and I am happy he is not our boss. I am way too much of an anarchist to enjoy this kind of government. On one hand he is smart, intelligent and a very strong person and a cold blooded leader. On the other hand he is doing ridiculous things all the time, like diving for artifacts (obviously staged), riding half naked on horses etc. Just have a look of the photos published by him. In Russia no photo of him will be allowed without approval of the Kremlin. The one I’ve chosen as avatar is an example. You have to be either very self confident or a little crazy to let anybody make such photos of you and agree to publish it. I wonder when we see Putin action figures in the shops.
I bet both sides are part of a plan and I find it very entertaining and sometimes enlightening because it tells you a lot about politics, peoples mind and society.

Many if not most men here have this spirit. Without creating anything, what ever it is, you are just a consumer and consumer are like brain-dead zombies.

Than’s for the invitation. Same goes vice versa, of course. I have only a small house, but my couch is always vacant if somebody needs it.

@smith: Is that you in the video? If so, that’s a nice setup you’ve got there.

A leaf spring should make for a very tough knife, but I’m not sure how well it will keep an edge. Have you ever considered welding an old file onto the billet where the edge will eventually be formed? One of my climbing knives was made that way and it’s nigh-indestructible. I’ve abused the f~~~ out of it too, even used it as an emergency piton a few times, and it’s still easy to keep straight razor sharp.
