My sister brought over my son’s phone to fix. And… I wish I had opened it up to take a look. BEFORE I Purchased an LCD SCREEN for it. And DAMN IT. I thought I bought the WHOLE FRAME. Nope. I ordered just the LCD. The FRAME is bent. I did not see it until I took the phone completely apart.

So After I put it all together, Have to be at work by 7am, I got everything back in the box, LABEL printed and shipped. And in about 3 weeks I should have the new part needed to fix the phone.

Let this be a lesson to all attempting to repair things. TAKE THEM APART FIRST. Get a ZIP LOCK back, store all the parts THEN ORDER what you need. Never make a guess it’s just one thing.

This time, I bought BULLET proof case, AND I am going to SEAL that BABY TIGHT with GLUE. AND put a Double stick tape on the back so that it is almost IMPOSSIBLE to get out of the case.

How did it break? My son was “Demonstrating” how his dad brought him and INDESTRUCTIBLE phone case. when it fell apart after a throw. And it hit PRETTY damn hard. THe METAL heat sink BENT. So.. I have to order a complete new assembly. with the LCD screen instead of just the screen. Thankfully, I am just in the return window, so I can at least use 27 of the $32 I spent on that item on the new parts.

So, right now, I’m about to call it a night. Get some sleep and be at work on time tomorrow on a new job site. Installing Cell phone relays no less.

Not thrilled about being at that site. I know someone who works there. But whatever. As long as we don’t see each other it should be okay.

Also, Anyone ever just replace the digitizer on a Phone or tablet? I’m thinking its just better to spend a few more bucks and just get the entire assembly from now on. Some things are best just put together by a pro to install by an end user.

I recently bought a Samsung J7 that cost a little over two hundred bucks. It’s a very serviceable smartphone and should be good for at least a few years. Problem solved.

Its not that I don’t have the money. I just enjoy the challenge of fixing things and keeping my mind and skillset fresh. Learn something new everyday, it keeps you young at heart and mind. AND good for the soul. Not to mention, a great thing to fall back on in hard times. Even if you only make $5 bucks a phone if you do it for OTHER people, you can get done about 2-10 done an hour.

That cash can add up. 🙂

Locate service manual of thing on internet, if it exists.
I always disassemble and take photos through the process.

Rebuilt my mom’s bicycle after being hit by a car. She was brought to the doctor, the bike needed 2 months of my weekend’s free time to disassemble, weld, paint, put together…

Recently I needed to repair the vacuum cleaner. Almost 25 years of dust accumulated inside. On the good side I understand electronics and triac power control and mains wireing and have good set of tools.

Also repaired the lawnmower and also my laptop.

I built bicycles and computers from scratch.

I always took photos of the process.

Another thing with anything containing information, is to make a backup of data before taking apart. (Good qoestion how you do this on latest phones, older ones at least had a micro SD card slot and it was possible to root them and use titanium backup on all the apps and data.
