Short story short I broke my own chair in my house because I found out my ex wife was having an affair and got convicted of property damage 3. Fast forward a year later and I am still trying to find work and all the decent jobs never hire me because of the DV tag on my record, it is a nightmare man. Is there hope? Has anyone been through this before I would love some insight.

You can get convicted of DV for breaking your own property? Inanimate objects?

What if your therapist suggested breaking things as a way to relieve stress?

They should be happy you took it out on the chair and not her. Should count for something.

It is possible to find a job. The trouble is, it might not be likely will not be a white collar job with Giant Corp.

A pal of mine works a “s~~~ job” at a small company that makes plastic things. He is surrounded by men who really did commit crimes. The point is, they all have jobs. Yes, it is dirty, noisy, and low pay; but it is a job and not welfare.

Another ex-convict I know of works an an automobile body shop. His boss cares for nothing, except that he shows up on time, is sober, and does his work. He is getting by.

Maybe go to some bulls~~~ therapy to show “you’re reformed” or act like a born again Christian, that might work. you could always try to expunge it, which might cost some money, but hey it’s an option.

Your story is a classic example of why a Man should never live with a women. All she has to do is say you acted in a threatening maner. She is automaticly believed. Being an independent contractor of some form will get you around this. Like going your own way for work also.Pic and choose who you work for. Freedom.

yeah guys, you can get arrested for breaking YOUR OWN THINGS..
the law is on the woman’s side as we all know..
her being in the same residence makes her a ” victim” in the eyes of the law.
it’s f~~~ed up but true.( in new york anyway..).
i know you may not want to hear it but..
you can try to get this conviction expunged from your record, seek a lawyer..
    or go into;
    your own business
    truck driving..good $
    restaurant work..kind of sucks..
    drug dealing..nah, maybe not..
try the other options first dude.

Yes, there is hope. Do you live in the United States? Many states have statutes that allow you to file an action to expunge the record for good cause. If it’s an isolated or single event and not a pattern of past behavior, you may be able to have it expunged.

I have an employee who took an alternative approach. Before he worked for us, he “temporarily” moved to another county, petitioned the court in that county for a name change. He picked a common name where a search through various databases by potential employers returned a gazillion results. This made it more difficult to find the past conviction in a background check. It fooled us, we hired him and he has worked here for 20 years. He was here 10 years before he came clean and disclosed it. I gave him a bonus for ingenuity.

    Good luck.

ONCE UPON A TIME there was a man who never found a wife and he lived happily ever after. The End.
