Men, after close to 15 years i’ve finally left the cigarettes behind. I started in college and while i stopped for a year or two here & there (ironically, because of relations~~~s i was in), i always came back.

Earlier this year i started planning my quit date, preparing myself, doing research (The Easyway by Alan Carr makes it *almost* trivial, no s~~~). I pulled the trigger almost two months ago. Today i’m 58 days smoke-free, and am having strings of days where i don’t even think about smoking. At all. Unbelievable.

Just wanted to share – as we all build better lives for ourselves, new achievements, skills, disciplines, places – sometimes it’s what we leave behind that makes our ship lighter so we can better explore.

    58 day victory

That is great new MattNYC. Keep up the good work. I have stopped and quit many times. I started when I was around 14 and have smoked off and on a chewed too. Its almost been Dec 7th will be 1 year. Like Doc Brown Said “If you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything.” When I quit, I quit in a spot where I wanted to remember. (the state line between Nevada and Cali. Left the habbit in another state. But keep on trucking Matt. You can do this.

    Good going!

Society asks MGTOWs: Why are you not making more tax-slaves?

I was on 60 a day … yes Six Zero. Worked in airline operations. Very stressful.

    Stopped … oooh … 35 years ago.

It was like winning the lotto. I could breath, smell and taste …. oohh the taste.

I also seemed to have endless pockets of money.

    A pack of 20 in the uk is approx £8 …. $12 … x3 … $36 …. x4 …. $144 a month

I recommend giving up. There are no downsides.

Any reason you picked Pearl Harbor day, or did it just “work out” that way? Regardless, very cool about leaving it in another state. Congrats!

Congratulations man! 35 years is definitely something I’m looking forward to, and here’s to another 35 for you!

And yes the $$$ good god the money…it wasn’t even one of my primary motivations for quitting. But “my brand” in NYC cost $15.00 per pack. Times 1 pack / day = $450.00 per month!

On another note – can anyone tell me how to reply directly to someone else’s post? I can quote just fine, but seems like replying isn’t working. Do i have to highlight first, then hit reply?

Thank you for bringing up this book! The book is freely available here and after reading it today, I highly recommend it also. I won´t say too much about it, but after I started reading I could not put it down! It just made complete sense to me and after 6 months into a relapse (triggered by leaving ex-girlfriend), trying all sorts of ways to cut down my addiction, today I feel ready to leave this chapter of my life in the dirt. I´m sick of being low energy, I´m sick of finding it difficult to focus! There´s only one way forward! Hoorah!

Let´s both leave our hazy pasts in the dirt!

I´m onto my third day, and I was extremely skeptical before about cold turkey. I have to say…. a) this book is true. b) the strangest part of it is also true – there are minimal withdraw symptoms and c) I would not have been successful in initiating cold turkey without this book. I have quit hundreds of times in the past, but always in the wrong way until I gave up over time. Wasted lots and lots of effort trying to cut down to 10 a day. Failure and guilty feelings, repeated over and over again. This book explains everything. This book is like the red pill for smokers…

Here is the epub version, you can find software like Calibre that will help move it into different formats like for mobi for kindle.

    Congrats MattNYC,

Am working on month number ten at the moment!

    As ILiveAgain said

I also seemed to have endless pockets of money.

I can bounce up a flight of stairs no problem now without getting into a coughing fit at the top and wanting to up-chuck a lung! Now I gotta get off the nicotine gum (that stuff is just as evil).
