My mum did exactly what this woman is proposing. Except in my case, she and my “dad” knew that my “dad” couldn’t have kids, and when my “dad” found out that my mum had got knocked up by another guy, he agreed to stay with her and pretend he was my dad. Which is how I grew up, living a lie.

It gets better. My parents had the genius idea that they would reveal the truth to me on my 21st birthday, like they lived in some f~~~ing Dickens novel.

Needless to say, it f~~~ed with my brain pretty bad. Took me 15 years after that to get to the point where I felt able to meet my biological dad, who by now was an aging Chad in his 70s who’s knocked up various women over the years, most recently in his 60s.

Maybe I’ll write a post about it sometime…

It’s worth mentioning, for info, that in the UK it is a criminal offence to knowingly put a false name on a birth certificate under s. 4 Perjury Act 1911 and is punishable by up to seven years in prison. Doesn’t seem to stop a lot of women doing it, though.
