No. I need to lose desperate weight. I find something I enjoy and do it.

Pardon my ignorance, but what does isolative mean?

I thought i was the only one who hated running/sprinting for cardio. All i do for cardio when i cut nowadays is either swimming or rope skipping.

Deadlifts because when done properly they work most of the muscles in your body. It’s like doing 4-5 workouts simultaneously.

Some moves work multiple body parts at the same time. The moves you choose only work the one targeted area at a time.

I thought i was the only one who hated running/sprinting for cardio. All i do for cardio when i cut nowadays is either swimming or rope skipping.

Most lifters do their cardio all wrong, and actually sabotage their own efforts and long term health benefits.

Lifting is High intensity, and it is a stress. It takes 48 hours to recover from it. Any cardio you do as a serious lifter should be LOW INTENSITY. Most lifter ( and I include the young and dumb me in this) do their cardio the same way they do all their workouts. “No pain no gain bro! If it doesn’t leave me exhausted I just wasted my time!”

You should keep your HR below 180- your age. Subtract 5 more if you have been sick or injured in the last year. This is called the Maffetone method btw.

It will take some adjustment, because at first it will feel too easy. But you will build a hell of an aerobic engine if you keep to it, and your lifting days will be better and harder (That’s what she said!) because you are fresher for them.

Once you tone it down and stop killing yourself on cardio days, just like on lifting days, it actually becomes quite enjoyable. Especially if you can do it outside. A nice run/walk with my shirt off and soaking up the sun while listening to a podcast is something I look forward to. I do the hard high intensity stuff twice a week now, and the rest is nice and easy cardio.

This is the kind of training that propelled Mark Allen to ironman greatness, and it has greatly improved my health and fitness once I adopted it.

TLDR: Lift hard and at high intensity, but cardio easy at low intensity. Scientifically proven nd with shown results.

Regular and incline benchpress, weighted pull-ups, military presses and front squats have been my main movements to build my physique.

Isolation = movements that target a single muscle group (lateral raises, leg extensions, chest flys, tricep pulldowns ect.)

Compound = movements that target several muscle groups at once (squats, deadlifts, benchpress, pullups ect.)

To build strengh and aesthetics I recommend doing a mix of both.
Start your workouts with heavy compound, and finish off with isolation.

I also recommend reverse pyramid training on compounds.

I did T25 for awhile, lost some weight, but just got skinnier and built no mass. Don’t know if it’s a height thing. I’m 6’4″ and have never been able to build massive muscles. I’m now 45 years old.

Avoiding the gym, I just do slow pull-ups, push-ups, and squats.

I typically love to do power bodybuilding. I start with a big compound movement like bench press for lower reps and heavier weight. Once my strength is activated, I’ll focus on accessory movements for that muscle group for higher reps and lighter weight. I then typically finish off the workout with some bodyweight exercise to exhaust the muscle and do some form of cardio just for conditioning.

I really wish I could love doing front squats but man are they painful for me. It’s such a good exercise though that I force myself to do them.

Agreed, it’s a great exercise, but they are really tough, for the core especially. They exhaust me quite a bit more than back squats tbh

I want to do CrossFit, so I can have a body like CrossFit champion Dan Bailey (the size of his arms and delts). Problem is that I’m light years away from being able to do it. I tried a version of it at the gym last year, and I nearly threw up, and that was after an hour’s workout.

In my opinion, unless you really really enjoy crossfit, I would stay away from it. It’s a really ineffective way of building muscle mass and strength, and rate of injury is really high due the frequent use of bad form.

You would get stronger and bigger faster just lifting weights.

I can almost guarantee you that Dan Bailey did not get that body from crossfit, most of them do conventional weight lifting in the off season to build strength and size, and then practise the crossfit movements 2-4 weeks up to competition.
