I’ve got an old friend who is a super-blue pill mangina sci-fi writer. I’ve mentioned him before.

He’s always on about how we need more women in things like gaming, sci-fi, STEM… you know, things he likes to do. Of course.

Typically i take the counter argument and go after him about why we supposedly need more diversity in science but not in construction or waste management and other similarly dirty, dangerous and average paying industries. But this week when he brought up E3, I decided to take a different tact.

I think it’s awesome there were so many females at E3 this year. It looks like the industry has really embraced the idea that women can be just as big of gamers, developers and nerds as men.

Yeah, right?! F~~~ those misogynist cis-gendered white men. Gamer girls rule.

Have you heard the new big thing, though? It’s female gamers getting s~~~ty about “fake” gamer girls that they’re claiming are just models in costumes.

Yeah, well booth babes are really problematic…

Oh, they’re not talking about booth babes. They’re talking about attendees. They say these skinny LA girls come in with their fake boobs and dress in costumes and just walk around and get photographed and post on social media and get a lot of attention and so forth. The “real” gamer girls are complaining that they don’t play games, don’t really care about games, don’t understand fans or fan art, dont make their own costumes and don’t know the characters’ back stories… that they’re just invading the conference because there’s a lot money going around and it’s very right popular now.

Uh…

… basically all the same things they got so p~~~ed off about when the men said it about them just a couple of years ago. Interesting, huh? I guess it really feels s~~~ty when some Suzy-come-lately shows up at your thing that you put so much effort into and starts getting all the attention, you think?

Ooh, and did you hear the new Microsoft “Clubs” feature for X-Box is going to let cis-gendered white men create their own private gaming groups where they can exclude women, blacks, immigrants, gays and trans people from joining and playing with them? Oh wait, scratch that… reverse it.
