Why should they? There is no real solidarity within that movement. They literally are a “rainbow coalition” that has subdivided itself into segments so thin that even people in the community can’t tell who is who.

Go to the housewares store in the Castro in San Francisco (if you dare!) and look at their array of flags. There’s the rainbow but there’s also the bear flag, the leather daddy flag, the drag flag, the gender fluid flag, the demiromantic flag and even the “straight ally” flag.

And everyone knows that gay men and lesbians hate each other and everyone hates pre-op transsexuals.

It’s insane.

As with any group, they are at odds within the community due to self-preservation and the resultant conflict for resources: members, funding, media, policy awareness and advocacy, etc.

Early self-preservation efforts were limited to a gay/lesbian discussion as the available resources were sufficient for both causes. Not the case now as more and more non-traditional segments of society see the next “Gold Rush” for intrinsic and extrinsic motivations.

One thing that has always confused me:

If a gay dude is feminine and another gay dude is attracted to him, why doesn’t the second gay dude just like feminine women.

Same with dikes. If some lesbian likes a masculine chick, why wouldn’t she just like dudes.

It so confusing.

One more thing: I really could give a f~~~ about a persons sexuality. Any person who identifies themselves by their sexuality is seriously self centered and I want nothing to do with them.
