So your sitting around in your home and just hemorrhaging money, how you might ask? Well you probably do not have LED’s Bulbs in your home.

They do cost a hefty sum but if you look at the second link you will see that they will quickly pay for themselves. I have replaced every single light in my home this past weekend and will be monitoring my Kw usage and what the savings have been for me to date.

-$450 (cost of bulbs)
I do fine with standard bulbs. I turn off lights when not needed, turn down the heat low at night and just use extra blankets, live in a small apartment, ect. $450 would pay my electric bill for five months. I could get even cheaper if I had to. LED is a great idea, as they never burn out, but waiting until they get a lot cheaper might be a good idea.
How I save energy
I have a completely passive PC cooling system.
This is what the CPU cooler looks like:
Yes that’s massive. But it’s completely silent, can cool the computer without problems even if everything is running on 100% 24/7
Having no fans and no water cooling system at all, saves 35% energy.
The PSU(power supply) is passive too, the graphic card is passive too.
You can do that with any cpu and any graphic card.
I have a GTX 750 Ti (would also work with GTX Titan but I don’t need that much power) and an Intel i7 CPU.
So no cons, just pros. Less energy usage, much less dust in the pc because it’s not getting sucked into and completely silent* (0 db).
* For 0 db you need either a silencer case for your hdd or a ssd.
I also have master & slave power strips everywhere, so for example when I switch of my television all attached devices go power off, no standby s~~~.
Switch off tv and soundsystem, playstation, firetv, receiver etc goes power off too. Switch tv back on, all devices start with it.
That saves so much energy, and once you installed it it’s no extra work like switching of your power strip manually would be.
I just got my electricity bill some days ago, my friends didn’t believe me that I have to pay so little. My PC is running 24/7.
I told them they just need to make some improvements in their home, but they didn’t like to do that “too expensive”.
It’s a one time investment, and you save money for the rest of your life. (Those things all have 5 years+ warranty, if they break they give you a new)
And about the lights, LED is cool and is getting more and more advanced. They’re also getting cheaper all the time and you don’t have to use that bright white light, they have warm led light too now, like a normal bulb.
Buy modern stuff even if it’s a little more expensive, you will benefit from it really fast.
I always buy everything with best standards, A++ fridge, A+ electric cooking range, A+ flatscreen, even a f*cking A+ high-tech toaster from Switzerland lol!
That’s why people are so confused, I have all this electrical gear, and still pay less for energy then they do.
@floarty – Holy S~~~ that is a big heat exchanger! On the bright side, you can warm a room with it (kidding…).
What kind of PC rig would house something like that??? I haven’t built a computer in quite a while (5 years or so) – things have probably REALLY changed since then…

~ Theodore RooseveltHey dudes! I have been kicking around (in my head) the idea of installing my own solar system. I live in Phoenix so it makes perfect sense (and cents – ha ha).
The only thing holding me back is the cost of the panels and I would REALLY like to make a system where I could throw a master switch and go off-grid, and run on batteries. The cost of the materials is what is making me loose interest. Has anyone heard anything about solar installs?
Thanks

Anonymous23Unencumbered – Thanks for making my morning mate, I now have the mental image of watching the news with the headline “Man in Phoenix creates his own solar system, swirling moons and planets cause chaos”.
Yeah, I’m weird I know.
@Ynys – Well, if I had to wager, I would say you are no weirder / stranger than me. Some of the jokes I crack with the other guys get plenty of eye rolls and groans.
Take Care.
