Enabling SSL?

So, being a geek and professional internet person (I’ve been working in ecommerce since 1999) I wanted implore you to enable ssl on your domain and within the forums.  You do have an ssl certificate but it’s obviously a self-signed cert and not appropriate for actual use.  I’d be willing to pay for the cert if it’s a cost thing (although I doubt it is).  In this day in age, being able to browse over https is pretty much a given and is slowing becoming the norm.
