Tonight I was watching a news show, and one of the emails came from a guy in England that said something like: “In response to Kasich’s kitchen comment, I held open a door for a woman. She said ‘I can open my own door.’ and he finished by saying “I opened a door for a lady and I felt like I made a mistake.”

Just an example that even when you’re being a gentleman anywhere, woman still treat men like we’re second-rate people.

This happened to me in 1993. I remember it well. Still today – 23 years later.

I was coming out of an office building, and a woman with bags in both of her hands was approaching…. so I held the door for her, and she said “I can open the door myself”…. so I timed it perfectly and let it slam in her face.

I was going to add to that after I posted, but now that you mention it, I wouldn’t handle it the same way today for a very specific reason —- >>> because becoming the asshole she cultivated would make her “happy”.

Whenever there’s a huge crowd in front of me walking in a public place, I make it a habit of mine to walk right behind a woman to make THEM open the door for me. Especially in very liberal public places. Like university libraries.

So would I. But even I didn’t see it. By the time I herd the thud I was already walking away. She was p~~~ed though. The reason it remains burned in my memory is because prior to that, I had never been treated like a second-class citizen for demonstrating manners. It was completely foreign to me. She can say “thank you” or she can lick me where I s~~~t.

You’re right Keymaster, I learned to be “that asshole” at the flick of a hair trigger switch!
I’m kind and considerate to people around me, it’s good mechanics, same in traffic too. I don’t cop attitudes or skip a beat over miserable self centered people. The majority of people CAN’T, WON’T, WILL NOT, simply use those humblest of two worded phrases; YOU’RE WELCOME, and THANK-YOU.
Phrases I use quite often……..

I don’t sit and hold the door like a moron waiting for Queenie the Meanie, I simply time it right for them to catch the door as I give it an opening shove to delay it’s closing, or let it close behind me to avoid any bad timing or confusion. I too was trained to step aside from chivalry, but not my manners, they’re mine, they’re for me, and I’m keeping them!

I actually posted late last year that I was xmas shopping for a present for my dad, and I saw a woman heading towards the department store front door. She was balancing a light box on one hand. She could have got to the door first, but hung back ever-so-slightly. I got to the door first, and could see her quicken her step slightly to take advantage of my chivalrous nature.

I ducked through the door and let it slam behind me. All I heard was “mmMHHHHMMPPH!!” I didn’t even look back.

No f~~~s given.

Bear in mind, I was raised to be chivalrous, and it is in my nature. But I get to pick and choose now. An older person, in difficulty, and I’d absolutely hold the door for them. But a business woman in a suit, in her 30s, holding a light box, with one hand potentially free, expecting a free ride? No more.

Maybe it’s just Texas, but I have never run into a woman that has done that. Here you get called sweetie and darling at the drive through and it’s not condescension, it’s almost surreal to read other members accounts when I live with Southern Hospitality.

I make sure to look disinterested as I walk and almost every woman smiles at me first. I’m mindful that it could be station in life, but man and woman around here just seems like the situation isn’t as dire as some of the areas others on the forum live.

I’m sure my results would be different in sections of Dallas or Austin.

Sure marrying one could still get you dragged straight through Hell, but out in public women here seem like they are about 40 years behind their more coastal sisters.

Women go around with this active hostility and wonder why no one wants to f~~~ing marry them. They are so f~~~ing bizarre they take an act of kindness as some assertion that they’re weak. I did the same when I was going out the rear doors of a bus. They were spring loaded, the bus had just stopped at my University, and this Feminist Student was right behind me. I held open the doors for a slight pause then let them slam on her. I didn’t even turn around or acknowledge her existence. I heard an “Ommpf!”
