This guy has a great series of videos on early american foods and historical re-enactment. Worth a watch. Guy has a real love for history.

It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion, it is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed, the hands acquire shaking, the shaking becomes a warning; it is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion.

Thanks for posting. When I was in high school, I had a classmate who was a Civil War reenactor. That’s as close as I’ve ever come to the real thing. I will say it proved to me that central heat, indoor plumbing, and modern appliances are a really, really good thing!

Whenever I get tired of hare brained modern fiction (and this happens a lot), I dig up a book on history, or find a DVD the History channel did on some major event.
