Don't allow people's negative energy to suck away your positive energy

I posted part of this in another thread, so I guess I might as well make it it’s own thread so I can expand on it. Humans are a unique species. Far above the others in the animal kingdom because we as humans seek experiences. In whatever form. Many humans are willing to PAY for experiences. Whether it’s a trip to a park, or a ticket to a concert, or whatever. Maybe it’s simply a night at the local watering hole where a live band is playing or there’s karaoke.

The world is filled with the takers, and the givers. The takers are “energy thieves” or “energy vampires”. These people can kill the mood of any situation, or experience by sucking the energy and life force out of others. Ever notice when you’re around negative people, you feel drained both physically and emotionally? Their mood has now become YOUR mood? You were around that angry person and suddenly you became angry yourself? You were around that depressed person and you became depressed yourself? Even when you were positive minded before the interaction. Depression and happiness work on the same principle…

IT ONLY TAKES ONE FOCUSED THOUGHT

It only takes one focused thought to snowball. When you are in a negative mindset (one that breeds depression), you quickly look for other things to be negative about, and suddenly your mindset becomes one of a self defeatist. It could be anything. Your kid could have gotten arrested, or flunked out of college, you could have lost your job, found out your wife has cancer, your mom just died… When you dwell on that thought, suddenly other things seem negative. If you lost your job, suddenly you start worrying about how you’re gonna pay your bills. Are you gonna lose your house, or not make rent? Suddenly your little snowball is an avalanche rolling down the hill. Well guess what!

That same principle works on positivity. Doesn’t matter what it is. Could be you got a raise at work. Could be you won $200 on a scratch off ticket. Well.. When you focus on that positive thing, you’re in a good mood. Suddenly you find other things to be positive about. And when you’re positive about something, you’re what? EXCITED. You’re excited. Your energy is boosted. You feel full of life.

Now let’s apply this to the givers and the takers. The takers approach your interaction with the intent (even if it’s not flat out intentional, it’s subtle) of stealing your positive energy. The givers approach an interaction with selfless positive attitude.

BRING THE PARTY!

Walk into any situation and OWN IT. Confidence is what attracts women or so they say right? For good reason. How many women do you know who were attracted to negative vibe guys. Nobody likes a guy who sits and sulks in the corner. Now before you jump in about the women stuff, hear me out. This extends far beyond just women, but also to men. A guy can be ugly, but if he walks in feeling confident, he has a sense of swagger without being arrogant, women fill find him attractive, he’s projecting a air of excitement. Doesn’t matter if he’s a f~~~ing 2! A guy can be all alone on a dance floor dancing, and if people see he’s able to entertain himself and have fun, and they see him smiling and laughing and dancing, they WILL COME DANCE WITH HIM. Why? Because he’s providing a POSITIVE vibe.He looks fun.

How does this relate to social interactions? People want an experience right? Guess what! So do you. When you bring yourself to ANY situation, and you “bring the party”, you show up loaded with positive energy, putting the place on notice, guess what happens? Other people do the same. Why? Because despite being individuals, we’re still a collective. Even as men “going our own way”, we’re still on a web forum, as a group of guys with somewhat common experiences. We’re a collective. When you serve the place notice with your positive vibe, other people in turn see your positive vibe and are drawn to you like a moth to a flame.

You know this to be true. Why? Because we’ve all had experiences where we were around people whose personality was INFECTIOUS. Why was it infectious? Because they increased our energy level. They were POSITIVE. They were fun, and outgoing. Interesting. Exciting. Most likely after having interacted with those types of people you did what? You wanted to interact with them more.

It’s all about what YOU bring to the table. Will there always be social parasites? Yes. Should you be aware of social parasites? Yes. But don’t let them suck away your positive energy and leave you feeling negative. Be firm. Put your foot down. Don’t accept that behavior. Because the man who failed to catch himself arguing with the manager of a restaurant for no particular reason will end up angry when he leaves for no particular reason.

When you approach any situation as being able to turn your personality to 10 on the dial, and you focus on having the best experience possible. The best MEMORY possible, others will contribute. Which in turn makes your experience even better.

I first figured this out when people who I had never met started approaching me because they had heard through their friends that I was a really good singer, and that they had to come and see me sing live. Think about that. Some night, who knows when. Somebody came in and heard me sing a song. They saw me interact with the crowd, they saw the crowd having fun, they saw me having fun, they in turn had fun. So they told their friends. They remembered. They were the beneficiary of that experience. That experience drove them to tell people who they knew to come to a place they’d never been before. To see for themselves.

Life is about experiences. Our memories are experiences. Many people are here because they’ve had NEGATIVE experiences with relationships and women and the courts and the police. They’re angry, they’re depressed. But who was active in ushering in your negative emotions and your negative energy? Vampires… Thiefs. They stole your positive energy, your life force and made you tired, angry, bitter. Those experiences you had are tied to negativity. That negativity is holding onto you and pulling you. That negative snowflake has rolled down the mountain and turned from a snowball to an avalanche. It’s no surprise there’s people on here dealing with depression. That’s what causes it. Break the cycle.

Find the positive in your life. Focus on it. Look for other positives, and when you travel in the world, BRING THE PARTY. Be that cool guy that people want to be around. Even if you don’t steal the chad’s girls. So f~~~ing what! When you bring the party, and you’re the host, you’re going to have as much fun as the guests around you. They will elevate the fun and you will be better for it, or they will suck it away from you. If they suck it away, leave. Get out of there. Show them by your leaving there is a better party, a better place, a better experience to be had elsewhere.

There’s different lenses for seeing the world. Serious people see the world as being serious. Funny people see the world through a lens where something funny is happening or about to happen in any given moment and act accordingly. Negative people will see the world as negative. So every opportunity, situation or experience becomes a negative one. The ones who have fun, the ones who are positive are INVESTED. Are they attached to the outcome, probably not. But they see the outcome’s potential.

No matter what you do in life, don’t allow people’s negative energy to suck away your positive energy.

For any of you guys that have children, you can explain this to them very easily. It is the whole premise of the movie Monsters Inc. The monsters start out the movie scaring the s~~~ out of the kids to take their energy from them to run their power plants in the monster world. By the end of the movie they figure out that making the kids laugh provides way more energy. Positive energy is more powerful than negative energy.

I actually had that conversation with my daughter about a year ago. She got the point very easily.

Also note in the movie that the bad guy, Randall, was a chameleon. Because the monsters that want to suck the life out of you will change shape to whatever gets them close to you.

I’m convinced that one of you magnificent bastards wrote that movie.

I’ve been trying to practice this every day…..when I can remember. I’ve been around negative people so long, I’ve become one of them and I have to focus and put effort into being the positive person. There is this one gal at work who is one of the most negative people I’ve ever been around. I avoid her as much as possible. When I do have to be around her, I ignore her as much as I can and try to change her negative conversation into a positive one.

I hate being that guy that says negative things. I see myself do it and wish I had just kept my mouth shut, or had said something more positive. I don’t want to bring anyone down. I want to be happy and make others happy.

I hope that everyone gets a chance to read this post, IRM, as these are words of wisdom. Having spoken to you and hear you expand on it also added a lot, that I feel would benefit anyone that gets the chance. I might have to refer to this every so often, just to make sure that I am keeping my mind right, and not letting my thoughts and happiness falter because of something that I can control.
