The Tweet you are referring to is from this year. The one I pasted is from 2010. He has clearly changed his position. He obviously won’t admit it. He never admits to ever being wrong. He lacks humility.

I don’t think it’s wrong to say Happy Holidays. He was a private businessman. His words did not need to reflect the values of the American people. As PC culture has exponentially worsened since 2010, the importance of saying “Merry Christmas” in the face of the secular attack on religious (specifically Christian) practices has become more important than it was.

Furthermore, I see no need to admit I was wrong about everything I change my mind about unless someone calls me out on it. Should I preface every argument I make in favor of capitalism with the fact that I used to be a socialist? What’s the point of that? If someone points out that I used to be a socialist, I’ll be happy enough to admit I was wrong and explain why I changed my mind, but absent that I see no reason to bring it up. Trump can say Merry Christmas without apologizing for saying Happy Holidays in the past.

It’s just hard to me to defend him sometimes when I’m around people who are completely against him. I wish I had you there to help me.

It’s politics, he wanted his message of good will to extend to everyone. Smart politics nothing more. I am being pedantic here but he also said holiday season, I’m not American but that season part kind of makes a difference.
