Divorce: Women may try to get pregnant via IVF for money before divorce finalize

Seen this posted elsewhere, thought it was important enough to share for you men that are married or looking to divorce. I think whether or not a scheme like this works depends on the state/country as to when a divorce legally takes effect, and how friendly the judge is/isnt. Also, the sperm donor doesn’t really matter, it’s no fault divorce. She pops out a donor’s spawn, you’re still on the hook.

This happened to me after my divorce had been initiated but before the court had finalised the divorce.
My wife who always wanted a baby decided that she would get one by IVF without me.

I was concerned that I might be responsible for child support for any ensuing child given that our divorce had not been finalised.

After doing some legal research I found out that according to the law, I could be held as the legal father if the baby was conceived whilst we were still legally married. I was very worried as it would take a few more months for the courts to finalise our divorce.

There was a way out, set out in the legislation: I had to fill in a form from the relevant IVF clinic saying that I did not consent to be the father.

Of course, my wife refused to tell me what IVF clinic she was seeing.

So there was no way I could record my lack of consent.
In desperation I started calling IVF clinics in my area to ask them if my wife had been seeing them. They refused on the grounds that the information was confidential.
I asked them if I could fill in a form signifying my lack of consent in the event that my wife was seeing them for IVF treatment. They said, no, they could only give such a form to my wife.
I remember speaking to one IVF clinic staff member. She did not seem at all surprised at my predicament and had a kind of world-weary attitude when I explained it to her.
I said to her, does this thing happen a lot?

She hesitated, then said they’ve come across it before.
I said, so it’s common for women who are going through divorce to try and get pregnant by IVF to try and get money from their soon-to-be ex-husbands?

She said, well it does happen.

Fortunately for me, I was able to get the court to expedite the divorce application and it was granted. My now ex-wife did not get pregnant by IVF and still hasn’t to this day.
I know I dodged a major bullet, and I count myself very lucky.

Women don’t even care how the child is conceived or effected in the future. They’re gonna lie to the child anyway about how they were born.
