Who still knows a Band called “Firefall”

Extremely popular in the U.S. during 1977 to about 1981 but sadly not one hit here in Europe.
The music by “Firefall” was “love at first sight” in 1981 as my english got fluent and I started listening to AFN.

Their rainbow of “highly psycholgical lyrics” about very strange relationships is just fantastic.

These songs are very comforting to anyone having been boiled by a “maximum borderline”. There is just no space here to post them all but I’ll try.

The first one is “So Long” from the “Luna Sea” Album (1977)

Actually it is what MGTOW is all about: So long, I’m out…

And 1kw sine power is not sufficient to play it loud enough…

    “So Long”

Nevermind the reason, you may never know
Blame it on the seasons, they come and go
Blame it on the weather, something in the wind
Blame it on whatever, it might have been

You can say you know what happened
You can say that I was wrong
You can say most anything you want to
You can say… I just say so long, so long, so long

Say it doesn’t matter, say it’s all for fun
Nevermind the laughter, that doesn’t come
Tell yourself you hate me, tell us all your side
Tell your friends I’m crazy, it’ll save your pride

You can say you know what happened
You can say that I was wrong
You can say most anything you want to
You can say… I just say so long, so long, so long

So long, so long, so long… I just say so long

Call it fact or fiction, blame it all on me
Speak of your conviction in destiny
Say it’s not important, you can swear it’s all a game
Call it fame or fortune, but it’s all the same

You can say you know what happened
You can say that I was wrong
You can say most anything you want to
You can say… I just say so long, so long
    I just say so long

(You can say you know what happened)
You can say that I was wrong
You can say most anything you want to

You can say, you can say, you can say…
    I just say so long
(You can say you know what happened)
    I just say so long
(You can say you know what happened)
    I been wrong before
(You can say you know what happened)
    Does it really matter, oh
You can say you know what happened

The second song on the Firefall “Luna Sea” album is OT here ’cause it’s a song

about a man, and the way he feels and thinks about love.

Many of us feel this way, but sadly we can’t get women to feel the same way.

It is not an illusion, love like this really exists but it is “from a man”

    “Just Remember I Love You”

When it all goes crazy and the thrill is gone
The days get rainy and the nights get long
When you get that feelin’ you were born to lose
Staring at your ceiling thinkin’ of your blues

When there’s so much trouble that you wanna cry
The world has crumbled and you don’t know why
When your hopes are fading and they can’t be found
Dreams have left you waiting, friends have let you down

    Just remember I love you
    And it’ll be alright
    Just remember I love you
    More than I can say
Maybe then your blues will fade away

When you need a lover and you’re down so low
Start to wonder, but you never know
When it feels like sorrow is your only friend
Knowing that tomorrow you’ll feel this way again

When the blues come callin’ at the break of dawn
Rain keeps fallin’, but the rainbow’s gone
When you feel like crying but the tears won’t come
When your dreams are dyin’, when you’re on the run

    Just remember I love you
    And it’ll be alright
    Just remember I love you
    More than I can say
    Just remember I love you
    And it’ll be alright
    It’ll be alright
    It’ll be alright
    It’ll be alright

Firefall – “Strange Way” from the album “Elan” (1978)

About a strange relationship: I started to understand what this song was all about after I actually had an “almost girlfriend” like this…

    “Strange Way”

Didn’t I hear you cry this morning, didn’t I feel you weep?
Teardrops flowin’ down on me, like rivers in my sleep.
And in my dream of laughter, you came creepin’ with your fears.
Telling me your sorrows, in the tracings of your tears.

That’s a strange way to tell me you love me
When your sorrow is all I can see
If you just want to cry to somebody, don’t cry to me, no
    Don’t cry to me, no

Didn’t I hear your voice this morning, didn’t you call my name?
I heard you whisper softly, but the words were never plain.
And in your dream of darkness, I came shinin’ like the sun.
Waiting for the laughter, but the laughter never comes.

That’s a strange way to tell me you love me
When your sorrow is all I can see
If you just want to cry to somebody, don’t cry to me, no
    Don’t cry to me, no

Didn’t you feel alone this morning, didn’t you need a friend?
And in your darkest hour, you came runnin’ back again

That’s a strange way to tell me you love me
That’s a strange way to tell me you love me
That’s a strange way to tell me you love me

Here is another Firefall MGTOW song anthem that ripped up the AM airwaves in 1978.
Climbing the AT40 in a mass audience market.

    “Goodbye, I love you”

I guess every one of you can relate to that and this song does not need any further explanation. You could re-release it in 2018 and it will still be “current”…
I actually copied the idea to gently tell a crazy and possessive gf “to leave” in a painless way.

    “Goodbye, I Love You”

Maybe you think I’m letting you go
    Maybe it’s not that way
Maybe I love you more than you know
    Maybe you’ll know someday
Maybe you think it’s easy for me
    Easy to say Goodbye
Maybe it hurts me more than you see
All I can do is cry

But love is not enough to make you mine
You need someone who’s gonna be there all the time
    Someone to treat you better
    Someone to see you through
    Someone who’d never say
    Goodbye, I love you

    Goodbye, I love you
    Goodbye, I love you
    Goodbye, I love you

You need a man who’s always around
    Whenever you feel alone
You need a man who won’t let you down
You need your man at home
You need the time to let yourself live
    You haven’t lived enough
You need the one thing I cannot give
You need the time to love

But love is not enough to make you mine
You need someone who’s gonna be there all the time
    Someone to treat you better
    Someone to see you through
    Someone who’d never say
    Goodbye, I love you

    Goodbye, I love you
    Goodbye, I love you
    Goodbye, I love you

Some might call the next song “Blue Pill” but it is from a time way before that.

Again, it is about a man and his love destroyed by blame-shaming…

America – “I need you” from the self titled debut LP “America” 1971
(The one with the classic “A Horse With No Name” on it)

    “I Need You”

We used to laugh, we used to cry
We used to bow our heads then, wonder why
And now you’re gone, I guess I’ll carry on
And make the best of what you’ve left to me
Left to me, left to me

I need you like the flower needs the rain
You know I need you, guess I’ll start it all again
You know I need you like the winter needs the spring
You know I need you, I need you

And every day, I’d laugh the hours away
Just knowing you were thinking of me
And then it came that I was put to blame
For every story told about me
    About me, about me

I need you like the flower needs the rain
You know I need you, guess I’ll start it all again
You know I need you, I need you
I need you like the winter needs the spring
You know I need you, guess I’ll start it all again
You know I need you, I need you

I need you like the flower needs the rain
You know I need you, guess I’ll start it all again
You know I need you, I need you
I need you like the winter needs the spring
You know I need you, guess I’ll start it all again
You know I need you, I need you …

Deep Purple – “Living Wreck” from the LP “In Rock” 1970

    “Living Wreck”

You came along for a weekend
But you only stayed for one night
    You pulled off your hair
    You took out your teeth
Oh I almost died of fright
You’d better do something for your own sake
    Yes it’s a shame
Ah you know you’re a living wreck

You said you were a virgin
    Full of promise and mystery
    But I know that you
    Would bring me down
‘Cos everyone calls you big G
You’d better do something for your own sake
    Yes it’s a shame
Ah you know you’re a living wreck

Sorry to the ladies… But these songs were written for a reason.

Anyone growing up among borderlines can relate to this song.

    It’s MGTOW Mode 1971

Deep Purple with “Demons Eye” from the “Fireball” LP

    “Demon’s Eye”

I don’t mind just what you say.
I never heard you, baby, never heard you anyway.
I don’t care what you do
just so long as it ain’t me and you.
Sly, sly, sly like a demon’s eye.

    Everything’s good, I said, everything’s fine.
You don’t know, don’t know it’s the end of your time.
How does it feel to be turned away?
I’ve known it, baby, almost every day.
Sly, sly, sly like a demon’s eye.

    I don’t need you anymore,
I don’t want you, baby, hanging round my door.
You slip and slide round my brain.
You think you’re so clever, yeah, but you know you’re insane.
Sly, sly, sly like a demon’s eye.

I d-d-don’t mind just what you say.
I never heard you, baby, I never heard you anyway, no I didn’t.
    Everything’s good, everything’s fine.
You don’t know it’s the end of your time.
Sly, sly, sly like the demon’s eye,
    like the demon’s eye.

The Bee Gees “Love So Right” from “Children Of the World” (1976)

Also a song about something that happend to me a few years ago. But the MGTOW Mode got me over it within a few days.

It seems that in the 70s, there was a lot more music out there not being produced explicitly toward the female audience. The 70s are full of music describing the pain women can bring over their men. Could it be that many musicians and song authors used their lyrics it as a venting hole? Or is this what kept society more stable?

The extreme materialism began in the early 80s… (“Material Girl” started that age in pop music, and “Everthing she wants” was probably the answer song to it)

I now no longer wonder why most of these songs were hated by the wives of my American friends back in the early 80s. I put them on, thinking I can do no wrong – with ballads like these – and was asked to “turn it off”…

    “Love So Right”

She came on like the night and she held on tight
And the world was right when she made love to me
    We were free
She moved in like a friend , started loving me
And I thought I’d found my heaven in her arms
But the morning when I woke up
I was here and she was gone
    Now I’m hanging on
Maybe you can tell me how a love so right can turn out to be so wrong

Where did she go when I need her close to me
And the perfect story ended at the start
I thought you came forever and you came to break my heart
Now I’m hanging on , on the chance that you’ll come back to me

How a love so right can turn out to be so wrong , oh my darling
How a love so right can turn out to be so wrong , oh my darling
I could take it in my stride
    Start living for the moment
Maybe half the things we sought were never there
Simply open up our eyes and break it down to size
    It isn’t really fair

How a love so right can turn out to be so wrong , oh my darling
How a love so right can turn out to be so wrong , oh my darling
How a love so right can turn out to be so wrong , oh my darling [repeat/fade]

A wonderful song from a dreamer. Maybe this was the reason for some men to get hynotized about the lovely way women “should be”.

Back then it was “played to death” on the German pop radio.

Manfred Mann’s Earth Band – “You Angel You” from “Angel Station” (1979)

    “You Angel You”

    You angel you,
You got me under your wing,
And the way you walk and the way you talk,
    Feel I could almost sing.

    You angel you,
You’re as fine as anything’s fine,
Though I just walk and I watch you talk,
    Your memory’s on my mind.

Even though I can’t sleep at night for trying,
Well I never did feel this way before,
I never did get up and walk the floor,
If this is love then give me more and more and more and more and more.

    You angel you,
You’re as fine as fine can be,
And the way you walk and the way you talk,
Is the way it ought to be.

    You angel you.
Well I never did feel this way before,
I never did get up and walk the floor,
If this is love then give me more and more and more and more and more.

    You angel you,
You got me under your wing,
And the way you walk and the way you talk,
    Feel I could almost sing.

    You angel you,
You’re as fine as anything’s fine,
Though I just walk and I watch you talk,
    Your memory’s on my mind.

Even though I can’t sleep at night for trying,
Well I never did feel this way before,
I never did get up and walk the floor,
If this is love then give me more and more.
