Democrats: Our brand is worse than Trump

Democrat officials: Our brand is ‘worse than Trump’
    June 22, 2017
    Benjamin DeLisi

Chris Murphy, a Democratic senator from Connecticut, made some candid comments that caught my eye yesterday.

When he’s back home, Murphy said, he sometimes chats people up on a commuter bus, and “they are never talking about issues like Russia. They are not talking, frankly, what’s on cable news at night.”

And then, in the “Morning Joe” interview, he took a whack at his own party: “The fact that we have spent so much time talking about Russia has been a distraction from what should be the clear contrast between Democrats and the Trump agenda, which is on economics.”

Bingo. Running mainly against Donald Trump didn’t work for the Dems in 2016, and it’s not working now.

The news peg for these recriminations, of course, is the Democrats losing Tuesday’s special election for a House seat in Georgia. I never spent much time on that race because I never believed that Jon Ossoff, despite raising $25 million, was going to win in a heavily Republican district that he didn’t even live in.

But since the media collectively declared it a referendum on Trump—and would have gone haywire if Ossoff had won—there is a reckoning about what the Democratic Party stands for.

Ohio Democratic congressman Tim Ryan told the New York Times that his party is “toxic” in large swaths of the country: “Our brand is worse than Trump. We can’t just run against Trump.”

The president, for his part, tweeted that “the Special Elections are over and those that want to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN are 5 and O! All the Fake News, all the money spent = 0.”

This reminds me of the endless debates after Hillary Clinton’s loss about why she didn’t have much of an economic message.

I wrote yesterday about how the special counsel’s investigation of President Trump now dominates the media and political culture. But to the extent that the Democrats use much of their energy bashing Trump, they are failing to connect with voters who aren’t addicted to Beltway scandals.

Times conservative Ross Douthat says the party’s problem is that while the country has moved left, the Democrats have moved even more left:

“On immigration, for instance, public opinion had actually become modestly more liberal in the years leading up to Trump — but the Democrats are now almost an open-borders party, so even modest skepticism about immigration tends to push voters toward the Republicans. On abortion, where public opinion has been stable, Democrats have ditched their old attempts at moderation, undercutting the gains that secularization and the liberal turn on other culture-war issues should have naturally delivered them. And the party’s base has no patience anymore for the kind of careful triangulation that Bill Clinton practiced on issues like crime and welfare policy, or for the then-Democratic voters who were reassured by it.”

We in the press always hype special elections. It would not have been a crucial blow to Trump if Ossoff had won in Georgia, and it’s not a devastating blow to Democrats that, despite raising $25 million, he couldn’t win in a heavily Republican district.

But his loss could serve as a wakeup call for liberals who think the Trump presidency is so disastrous that they’re on track to win the House next year. That may prove to be a mirage.

“clear contrast between Democrats and the Trump agenda”

You mean handouts and freebees vs personal responsibility? You ballooned the debt to 20 f~~~ing trillion? I think the contrast is clear indeed. When you were Republican before the civil war, your policies sucked ass then like they suck ass now. You couldn’t compete so you ran to slave states to bail you out and they said no.

Of course Russia is a distraction! You created that distraction with little to no evidence! Why? Because you’re sore losers. No wonder your “brand sucks”.

“your stance on immigration”… Yeah, you won’t enforce any of the laws and want to legalize everyone here illegally, esp those on welfare and food stamps, and every other government entitlement. Including sending them to schools for free. No thanks.

    Democrats. The party of trash.

The Democrats have unanimously rejected the new healthcare bill…no surprise there. Will they come up with a plan of their own or just keep bashing the Republicans? At least now, maybe we’ll quit hearing so much about Russia.

How can we expect them to have a message of personal responsibility when they themselves won’t even take responsibility for the problem that THEY created. People don’t like Obamacare, it’s been unpopular since it was signed. Don’t believe me?? Then explain to me why that bill was signed in early 2010, and by November 2010, Dems lost the House.

Of course their brand is bad. They can’t run on being the opposite of Trump. You have to run on ideas, and policies. They have none. It’s been 5 months. They have put forth no legislation to oppose Trump. Their only opposition is the fact that they dislike Trump. And let’s not even mention how the majority of their party is far left. Me being someone who studies history, i don’t like that so many millennials have such a favorable view of socialism.

How do you fix your mind to believe that the government should provide every damn thing and be in control of everything. Yea, that worked so well for Cuba and Venezuela. And their argument is that “Oh, socialism just hasn’t been perfected yet”. Bulls~~~ man. BULLS~~~!!!

The only opposition, they have against Trump is that he occasionally behaves funny on TV because as a President, you should have seriousness drooling from your eyes.

Me being someone who studies history, i don’t like that so many millennials have such a favorable view of socialism.

Because most young and seniors (vulnerable) favor socialism. Millennials will soon grow up and have no choice but to live in the real world while watching their taxes ripped from their paychecks to pay for the crybabies behind them. When people start accumulating bills, responsibility, and wealth they turn conservative.

Never lose sight of what brought you here.

Not all seniors favor socialism. There’s many a senior who are Republican. My mom’s parents included. Just like not all “grown adults” are conservative. But the ones who are liberal expect s~~~ to be free. Even marry working simps who can provide for them. Unless those adults are gay/lesbian, then they’re usually liberal with the oddball conservative.

By saying that their brand is worse than Trump and rejecting Nancy Pelosi, maybe some Democrats are starting to get the hint. That is still wishful thinking.

Trust fund babies and political elite have no idea what the average American thinks or cares about. The average worker isn’t coming home to debate whether transgenders need their own bathrooms, whether we’re too Islamophobic, or how much Russia is involved in our elections. They want their children safe from predators, themselves and their families safe from terrorists, and don’t give a f~~~ about Russia. So, Democrats will keep losing.

And while doing this they have also managed to demonize the average citizen. If you don’t support all their social beliefs and don’t suffer from an extreme case of white guilt and accept that the only reason any white person ever does decent in life is due to white privilege, you are some kind of xenophobic, homophobic, spoiled, racist hater.

That’s what tears them up. They hate President Trump so much yet he was elected. They want him impeached yet cannot find a reason. Then they want Pence impeached for no reason and next comes the Speaker of the House. So who do the Democrats want? Hillary? Sanders? Pelosi? They don’t even know who they want. The Democrats have no true leader. They have no solutions but can only cry about whom they don’t want.
