So I just have no clue what to do now but I must do something or I will end up eating a bullet.
So my shoes:
35-40 years old.
Last of my family in the UK are dead.
Unemployed (i was a carer for my mum till recently).
Real life friends all have bitches now so zero point staying in the UK for friends and family reasons.
I have a military and police background (no more of this bulls~~~ for me). F~~~ society I’m done. I did nothing but oppress people my whole f~~~ing life and wont ever be fooled into it again.
Looking for as little government and tax in my life as possible.
I Love scuba diving and its the only work I can think of that I would get out of bed for.
My online gaming friends mean the world to me so having a decent PC and the internet are very important.
I love the wilderness and have considered going semi off grid.
I wont work for anyone but myself (unless its scuba diving).
I don’t have expensive taste’s.
Feel more at home in every third world country I have visited.
Bit of a prepper.
I used to design and install solar systems. This work is no longer viable for UK small business like my old one.
If I sell my old family home I will have around $450-500k and no debt.
Rest of my life could be an open book but right now I’m rotting away in a family home I cant afford to run going nowhere. I have no savings and an income of £400 per month renting a room in my house out. Only just covers bills etc.
So what would you do in my shoes ?
All ideas very very welcome even the wacky ones.
Well, as a UK citizen you should have the ability to travel easily to more southern countries. Australia for one.
I would read up on this guys article for scuba careers. You may be old for certain things in scuba but if you are strong you could make a go at it.
https://www.bookyourdive.com/blog/2015/6/17/scuba-diving-careerSolar installs are still popular in the US southern states.
Since you have a military police background as well you could look into bodyguard work. If you can stand the pampered special snowflake princess vapid celebrities without barfing.
It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion, it is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed, the hands acquire shaking, the shaking becomes a warning; it is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion.
Just keep breathing…
…And maybe read more books.
(Books have a s~~~-load of answers to stuff you didn’t even think of asking)

It’s kind of hard to tell people how to live their lives because we all live them differently.

Just keep on, keeping on man. It sucks, and I’m alot like you. The way I see it, work for yourself, or do what you love so you don’t seem to “work”. It’s a s~~~ty and frigid world out there brother.
You’re way ahead of the curve buddy. You don’t have expensive tastes you’re not 50 grand behind on child support, and so on. Find some s~~~ty little job that’s enough to pay the bills until you can arrange to find something that you like better. Enough to keep the lights on and then make your way somewhere else, anywhere else. The world seems alot brighter when you see more than the same corner of it every day.
Keep us posted, man. And best of luck.

Yea I guess this is the heart of it for me. Kind of in the dark right now hence my feeble attempt at some brain storming here. I couldn’t think of a better group of people to ask that’s all.
I guess its a s~~~ty job then.
As for the diving maybe I’m kidding myself.

Sell the house, that’s what I’m doing! I’ve been selling my s~~~ for years now, I still have a long way to go.
Lighten your load! You may want to consider immigrating out of UK the entire of Europe is going to s~~~ with the EU (welfare spend another countries fortunes to pay for it) They’re gonna want to play crush b~~~~ to get UK to join. The proverbial smoke is rising from Europe and UK is close enough to burn. War always comes to Europe first than covers the world like a plague, except this time they’re importing enemy fighters to destroy you from within. The media filtering and blackouts are only starting to begin, things aren’t looking to good for Europe, that’s your neighborhood, and it’s about to get run down and slummy, a s~~~ty place to live.
Don’t believe me? Look at places like Lebanon, Somalia, Sudan, Iran, Syria, I’d start swimming to get away!Ow I don’t need to believe you bud I can see it.
I have zero time for Islam and its spreading fast. So yes I want out of not just the UK but maybe all the EU too.
Lightening the load makes a lot of sense if i sell my bike i can make it thu this spell maybe but am then left with no transport.
Selling this house is a big deal tho. So many memory here so many years in the family and all.
If I were in your shoes…the house would be a liability to me. You just end up having to pay maintenance and taxes on it…unless you really love living there or plan to turn it into a rental property, I’d sell it and walk away with the cash. If you get a half million from it you could probably just retire if you wanted to move to Asia or South America where the cost of living is much lower and there are plenty of nice beaches if you like the water.
It really depends on what you want for your future though. If you love the house and want to stay in England, could you rent another room out and find any sort of job you don’t mind…even if its just something part time. If you are keeping afloat with 400 a month and could make 1200 a month without much effort or being stuck working full time at some job you hate…why not? At least for the time being you’ll be banking some money instead of just treading water…which will give you more options down the road while you take some time to think about what you want to do with the rest of your life before you make any big decisions you’d regret later, including looking back in a few years and thinking f~~~ I wasted a lot of time just spinning my tires doing nothing when you could be enjoying your life more or setting yourself up better financially.
Since you love diving, have you considered going to work on a liveaboard you would be surrounded by diving, make somewhat decent living, and get away from the crap. I have known lots of people that did it.
"what a waste of a life, to marry, give up your freedom, just for the hope of not dying alone. Don't get married Son."
I really have been considering crossing the pond (even more so if Trump wins). Forgot to mention my dad was a Texan so I have US birth Cert. Got to visit the Embassy to sort all that out but its possible.
@ Beer I have to agree with you the house is a liability to me right now. Its just to much for someone unwilling to pull a 9-5.
I have no clue what will happen when the economic crash comes but I think its worth keeping in mind. Last thing I would want is that cash sat in the banks. Bricks and mortar seems the best bet perhaps if I can just make it past this s~~~ty time now then I could rent this place out in the future.
Perhaps I just need to man the f~~~ up get a job I can tolerate.Save up an emergency fund then the cash for a flight and camper van and travel. I need to do this.
I loved driving in america its just so huge! I could live in van for sure.
It already sounds like a life worth living.
Negative thoughts really
arehave blinding me to so many possibility’s.Very much into improving my gardening for sure. Only growing onions and potatoes atm but its a solid start and its going well.
As for women they don’t factor into any of this thinking.
I can honestly and for the first time say that I have moved on from that bulls~~~. That’s a big deal for me to be able to say that with little to no emotion attached to it.I don’t hate them I just have no time left for them and I was stupid to waste time on them in the first place.
Thanks for the homework I need it. 🙂
Edit: Also Wally yes that something I have been thinking about but I have to get myself in much better shape first.
Anonymous0In my 30s I was based in Hawaii in the military and I used to scuba dive a lot, recreationally. When I took the initial training class, my instructor was a commercial diver. He had done it all: Oil rigs, salvage diving, search-and-rescue jobs (drowned swimmers), and of course class instruction. Anyway, he said that commercial diving is quite lucrative, for those who love it enough to get into it full-time. He said he wouldn’t even put a toe in the water until they promised him some ungodly hourly wage. That was a few decades ago, but I imagine there are even more opportunities today at the international level.
Have you checked out trade publications or websites for employment prospects and pay estimates? If you’ve only dived recreationally, you’ll probably need additional certifications. But you’re able to travel and you have access to some seed capital, so you would probably be able to go for it better than most. Your age might keep you from some types of extreme diving, but it shouldn’t be a big barrier for bread-and-butter diving; plenty of old men dive regularly.
At a minimum, it would be a hell of an adventure. Better than putting a gun to your head. Even if you only do it for a few years and get tired of it or too old for it, you could be eyeballing other opportunities as you go, in boating or other sea-related opportunities.
Anyway, that would be my own first step, if I were in your shoes. If you love something, then check out some trade publications and see if it’s possible to earn some pay while doing it.
This is too easy.
Get your Padi Dive Master ticket.
Get your ass to Thailand preferably south of Phuket or around Krabi. Teach or work for a dive chatter.
You can rent an awesome apartment for around $400-600 usd per month with wifi.
Grab a scooter.
Live an awesome life.
Brother,
Become a barber possibly. All cash, off the grid, no reliance on technology and upgrades, and don’t have to listen to women complaining. I have never seen a barber who did not have cash in his pocket. Everybody needs a haircut usually at some point. If you like pounding hot ass, become a cosmetologist. Just my two cents. Good luck!
@ash Nrahk if I was in your shoes I would liquidate that house asap… with that money I would move out of the UK ASAP and either go to Canada… with the british pound you would almost make double your money in Canadian dollars. I would then invest half the money into dividend paying stocks to live off of and the other half into a small house and some toys. you would then have the world at your fingertips and the money to do things with.
Knowledge is power..... Don't waste your brain on bullshit
