I have a problem with the HDMI outlet on my laptop.
There are other outlets on the side of my Laptop.
Can any of them be used instead of the HDMI ?
I think I may have worn out the HDMI outlet due to plugging it into the TV too many times.
Any other suggestions how I can overcome this problem ? Or do I need to buy a new computer ?
    Thank you

Test with another HDMI cable before trying another port is my suggestion, as it could be your HDMI cable.

Sometimes it is something as simple as cleaning the connections.
Compressed air and electrical contact cleaner are your friends.
I clean first, test, then swap out connection cables, test, then I’ll troubleshoot the retaining “clips”, and test.
Most times all that is required is a good cleaning.

If it has a VGA or display prt output you can use that. If its not the cable. However it wont output in full HD.

∆ This, after testing with a new HDMI cable.

Please explain what “retaining clips” are.
Also, do you think that the problem is NOT the HDMI port ? but rather the cable itself ?

Please explain what “retaining clips” are.

The are the small detentes cut into to body of the “female” connector. The are specifically formed to act as an integral holding spring mechanism. That’s the reason for not needing screw in type external connectors like they have on DB9/PRT/VGA ports.
External cabling is the usual suspect, along with dirty connections. Actual port problems aside from dirt, is usually due to forced insertions, “sloppy” connections and rarely the physical connection to the board.
    -EDIT-
I forgot about the T.V side of it. It could be the connectors there, hence the sage advice of others to first check the HDMI cable

I just bought a new HDMI cable. It worked but only after I jiggled the cable “head”.

I think that perhaps I have “used up” the HDMI port (the part that is within the laptop).

If so, is it worth fixing or should I buy a new laptop?

Maybe take the laptop to get repaired and see if the port can be re-soldered. It may be an easy fix.

Ugh.. No. DO not bother with repair. You battery is the next thing that going to go out.

Unless you know what your doing, or have a repair shop that KNOWS what they are doing. Not a good idea bro to go in for a repair.

Also. If you have other ports, a VGA port still has no problem putting out a 2k signal (that’s in the VGA SPEC)

But also, you have other options. If you just use it to watch movies, and you have windows 10, you can use the wireless display dongle. It works over wifi, and most of the time, you can’t tell the difference.

If it works, keep using it. HOWEVER. If you do have a DISPLAY PORT>

    It looks like this.
    https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-DisplayPort-HDMI-Cable-Feet/dp/B015OW3QVS/ref=asc_df_B015OW3QVS/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=167141218295&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=5274607948106768862&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9061079&hvtargid=pla-352735551727&psc=1

Then you can just use that. And it will work just fine.

You are all alone. If you have been falsely accused of RAPE, DV, PLEASE let all men know about the people who did this. http://register-her.net/web/guest/home

I’m sure I’ve seen HDMI to USB cables on amazon.

For my mac I use the Thunderbolt 2 port which goes to a small adapter, into which I plug the HDMI lead.

The same thing happens to satellite receivers and their docking stations, I found that dielectric silicone on the contacts prevents premature wear and tear, perhaps this will help you in the future, my receiver is at least 15 years old and the connections work just fine.

Perhaps a repair shop can solder in a new port if need be.

    Good luck!

Google Chromecast – thats what you want.

Once connected to your telly, any device with a google chrome browser can be displayed on the Telly, with Audio.

Use them in conference rooms herte, saves all sorts of hassle.

No cabling, wondering what conmnectors, just do you have wireless capability, have you got Chrome installed – OK – Good to go

    Smee Again

YOu have a few options, under teh assumption that your HDMI port is bad.

    1. A USB3 to HDMI adapter. But performance will be slow you won’t want to use that for gaming

    2. If your laptop has a Display POrt or Mini-Display port this is your next best option , get Display port (or mini display port) to HDMI adapter. This will be high performance.

    3. IF your laptop has an older type of video plug called VGA, you can see if your TV has a VGA plug on it typically this is ‘PC’ input on a TV. Then you just need a cable, but VGA does not carry sound so you will not get sound out of your TV like you’re accustomed to with your HDMI cable. Also VGA is a 16×10 aspect ratio and a TV is 16×9 so yoru TV may not handle the resolution totally correctly depending on the TV.

3b. If your TV doesn’t have VGA but does have DVI, you will need a VGA to DVI adapter.
